Exploring Irish Countryside and wildlife on a private day tour from Dublin 🚙

On an unusually hot May day in Ireland (26 degrees C in the Wicklow Mountains National Park), this deer was crossing a dried-up creek right in front of our eyes - definitely one of those unexpected and special moments that makes exploring the Irish countryside so memorable.

That’s what we love about our Wickow and Ireland private tours: along with the famous sights, we can always linger and savour the sweet little moments that make the day feel truly special. That always adds to our guests’ experience.

Meet some of Dublin’s most charming locals 🦌

The fallow deer of Phoenix Park have been here for over 350 years, roaming freely just minutes from the city centre.

With a herd of hundreds, they’ve truly made this park their own: calm, curious, and completely unbothered by the world around them.

One of those simple, magical moments you don’t expect in a capital city 🍀

You’ve probably seen A LOT of these flowers recently in Ireland 😁 It’s hawthorn 🌸
In Ireland the arrival of hawthorn blossom has long marked the moment when spring begins to give way to summer.

It is known as the May tree and has deep roots in ancient May Day traditions. Hawthorn leaves and flowers were once used in garlands, its symbolism tied to fertility, renewal and the mysterious figure of the Green Man.

But hawthorn was also treated with caution.

Old folklore warned that hawthorn blossom should never be brought into the home. It was believed to bring illness, misfortune or even death. In medieval times people said its scent reminded them of the Great Plague and modern botanists later discovered why. Hawthorn blossom contains trimethylamine, a chemical also produced in the early stages of decay.

So beautiful, sacred and a bit unsettling all at once.

Its flowering also gives us the old saying:
“Cast ne’er a clout ere May is out.”

In other words, don’t put away your warm clothes too soon - not until the hawthorn has bloomed.

So next time you see white hawthorn flowers along an Irish hedgerow, remember: you are looking at one of the oldest signs of summer in the Irish countryside, wrapped in folklore, superstition and ancient seasonal magic.

Older than the Pyramids? It’s hard to wrap your head around it...

When we think of “ancient,” our minds often go straight to Egypt. But while the Great Pyramid of Giza was being planned, the people of Neolithic Ireland were already finishing masterpieces like this.

These stones have stood for over 5,000 years. They have seen the rise and fall of empires, the arrival of saints, and the whispers of a thousand legends.

Walking this path isn’t just a stroll through a field, it’s a walk through a “Thin Place,” where the boundary between the past and the present feels almost non-existent. 🌿✨

Want to know which Irish stone circles and tombs you should add to your 2026 bucket list? We’ve broken down the must-see sites in our latest blog post.

Out here in the Wicklow Mountains, you’re never really alone… 🐑

Sheep have been part of Ireland’s landscape for centuries, helping shape the rolling green hills we love today. In fact, there are more sheep than people in Ireland and they roam freely across these mountains like they own the place 😄

Slow down, take it in, and enjoy the simple moments 🍀
