The magnificent Israel Trail reaches from Eilat in the south all the way to Tel Dan in the foothills of the Hermon, right? Sadly, as of today this is no longer the case.

The northernmost section, from Tel Dan to Tel Hai across the northern edge of the Hula valley, has been removed from the Israel Trail. Due to extended sections travelling along roads, it has been deemed too dangerous for hikers.

From now on, 'shvilistim' will miss out on the Snir river. It is a wonderland of tree roots and waterfalls, and one of my favourite places in Israel. Any hiker should make sure to visit here, even if it's not officially part of the trail.

There are three tributary rivers of the Jordan - the Hermon, Snir and Dan rivers. Two of these are flooded with visitors; both Hermon and Dan boast some of the most beautiful and archaeologically significant sites in the country.

But my favourite is the Snir river - after rains it becomes a magical world of waterfalls, dragonflies and gnarled tree roots, and being away from the crowds lets me lose myself in the sound of rushing water and birdsong.

Thanks to Fujifilm Israel for lending me an X-T4 for this shot - I was able to shoot a 1 second exposure with no tripod.
