Until not too long ago Israeli pilots flew along side their Turkish colleagues. It is hard to believe that just about 100 years ago the first Turkish pilots, and for that matter airplanes at all, arrived in Israel. They were making their way from Europe to Egypt, and although some did make it to their final destination, receiving fame and glory, others found their death along the way- some right here in Israel.
In February 1914, two of Turkey's best pilots Fethi Bey and Othman Nuri took off from Istanbul towards the Pyramids. During Feb. 26th all the people of Jerusalem headed out to the streets to see the Turkish airplane land in an open field by the German Colony. After a few hours, as nothing showed up from the air, except for some migrating birds, the disappointed people headed back to their homes. The following morning they found out that the Turkish pilots crashed by the Sea of Galilee (Kinneret). The Turkish government erected a monument for those brave pilots.
This post comes with respect to those who flew above our heads and with hope of renewed co-operation...

For years and years, Jews have sought to come to Jerusalem from all around the world and pray at the Kotel, AKA The Western Wall, or the Wailing Wall, as many non Jews called it. As they were preparing for their journey friends and relatives approached them with simple wishes- pray for us, pray for Shlomo to be well, pray that Rivka will find a good Shidekh etc. They came to Zion with a task, knowing that if they pray earnestly enough those wishes might come true. In order to remember everybody, they probably wrote a list. We believe that once they were done praying they took the list and put it in the best vault they could find for such an important paper- THE WALL. 'Till today people have been coming to Jerusalem with prayers on their minds. They put their thoughts in writing and leave them in safe keeping together with those who have done so decades and centuries ago. A nice South African girl- Devorah, didn't make it there and asked me if I could do it for her. Devorah- this is for you... SHABBAT SHALOM
