You will be welcomed by an Israeli family from a small community in the Judean mountains, for a special Jewish Sabbath meal (Friday evening only) or lunch/dinner (Saturday) and easy walk in the desert landscape of the settlement. The dishes that you will eat together are cooked with local ingredients and is a fusion of Israeli and global flavors. The meal is festive and showcases the traditional w
ay in which they welcome the Jewish Sabbath (Friday evening). Join Amit and Oshra and their family to share a traditional meal at their dining table, where you will be introduced to Jewish ingredients, flavors, cuisine, culture and traditions. A few dishes that you might share together are pickled sardine in aioli, zaalouk (cooked eggplant and tomato salad) and sautéed sirloin with broccoli and shallots. End your meal with a dessert such as apple pie or seasonal fruits from the garden or mixed nuts, which is the usual after Shabbat dinner. Oshra was born and raised on a kibbutz where food was cooked and prepared in a shared kitchen and eaten by the entire community in a common dining hall. One of the cooks who worked in the kibbutz kitchen was Oshra's mother, who passed on her cooking talents and recipes to her daughter. When Oshra is not cooking and hosting friends and family, she is working as a nurse at a community clinic. She loves listening to her patients stories about the various types of food they cook at home and then tries to incorporate some of those recipes into her own kitchen. Amit is a licensed tour guide, he has a bachelor’s degree in tourism and a master's degree in the history of the Jewish people from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He is an expert on Israel's relationship with the Christian world and has developed and led many delegations. Together they would like to invite you into their home to join them for a unique experience, where you will share a traditional Jewish family Shabbat meal together (Friday evening only) or lunch/dinner (Saturday). You will get to know each other, share stories, eat a home cooked meal, explore culinary traditions and experience a little of the Jewish Sabbath tradition.
