Mensa Christi (Table of Christ)
*
Breakfast anyone? The account of Jesus preparing breakfast for his disciples post-resurrection is one of the Bible's great leadership lessons. It also depicts Jesus' desire to fellowship, surprise, and restore.
*
One of my favorite places in Israel is the site where the events of John 21 take place. I could spend hours on the shore of the Sea of Galilee and in the chapel that houses the rock believed to be the table upon which Jesus prepared breakfast for his disciples that day.
*
Later, Jesus appeared again to the disciples beside the Sea of Galilee. This is how it happened. Several of the disciples were there—Simon Peter, Thomas (nicknamed the Twin), Nathanael from Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two other disciples. Simon Peter said, “I’m going fishing.” “We’ll come, too,” they all said. So they went out in the boat, but they caught nothing all night. At dawn Jesus was standing on the beach, but the disciples couldn’t see who he was. He called out, “Fellows, have you caught any fish?” “No,” they replied. Then he said, “Throw out your net on the right-hand side of the boat, and you’ll get some!” So they did, and they couldn’t haul in the net because there were so many fish in it. Then the disciple Jesus loved said to Peter, “It’s the Lord!” When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on his tunic (for he had stripped for work), jumped into the water, and headed to shore. The others stayed with the boat and pulled the loaded net to the shore, for they were only about a hundred yards from shore. When they got there, they found breakfast waiting for them—fish cooking over a charcoal fire, and some bread. John 21:1‭-‬9

Resurrection Sunday in Jerusalem

The tomb of Jesus is at the Church of the Holy Selpuchre (left) or the Garden Tomb (right) in Jerusalem. Most scholars point to the Church of the Holy Selpuchre, but a visit to the Garden Tomb sure feels right. Either way, the account of Jesus' resurrection is undisputed, and today we celebrate! Celebrate that in Jesus' new life, we are given new life. What a gift! I am so incredibly grateful and humbled that God chose me and you to be a part of His plan of grace!

Early on Sunday morning, as the new day was dawning, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went out to visit the tomb. Suddenly there was a great earthquake! For an angel of the Lord came down from heaven, rolled aside the stone, and sat on it. His face shone like lightning, and his clothing was as white as snow. The guards shook with fear when they saw him, and they fell into a dead faint. Then the angel spoke to the women. “Don’t be afraid!” he said. “I know you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He isn’t here! He is risen from the dead, just as he said would happen. Come, see where his body was lying. And now, go quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead, and he is going ahead of you to Galilee. You will see him there. Remember what I have told you.” Matthew 28:1‭-‬7

For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, and then to the Twelve. After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers and sisters at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles, and last of all he appeared to me also, as to one abnormally born. 1 Corinthians 15:3‭-‬8

But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!) Ephesians 2:4‭-‬5

Inside the Church of the Holy Selpuchre in Jerusalem. Altar is placed on the site where it is believed Jesus was crucified. A somber reminder as we approach Holy Week. ❤️❤️❤️

Abraham, Jesus, and Mohammed all have history at this most sacred space in Jerusalem. On both of my visits to the Dome of the Rock, I was awestruck to stand on holy ground. Praying today for a more tolerant and loving world. Make a sacred space wherever you are.

I can't think of a better place to worship the God of all creation, than this tiny little church on the island of Mykonos. I have such fond memories of our visit there.

Jesus was born within eyesight of the courtyard at the Church of the Nativity. It brings a whole new meaning to Christmas having been there.
