ਸ਼ਹੀਦ ਸਰਦਾਰ ਊਧਮ ਸਿੰਘ (26 ਦਸੰਬਰ 1899 - 31 ਜੁਲਾਈ 1940) ਭਾਰਤੀ ਸੁਤੰਤਰਤਾ ਸੰਗਰਾਮ ਦੇ ਮਹਾਨ ਕ੍ਰਾਂਤੀਕਾਰੀ ਸਨ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਜਲਿਆਂਵਾਲਾ ਬਾਗ ਹੱਤਿਆਕਾਂਡ (1919) ਦਾ ਬਦਲਾ ਲੈਣ ਲਈ ਲੰਡਨ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਤਤਕਾਲੀਨ ਗਵਰਨਰ ਮਾਈਕਲ ਓਡਵਾਇਰ ਦਾ ਸੋਧਾ ਲਾਇਆ ।

ਜੀਵਨੀ:
ਜਨਮ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ੁਰੂਆਤੀ ਜੀਵਨ: ਊਧਮ ਸਿੰਘ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ ਸੁਨਾਮ, ਸੰਗਰੂਰ (ਪੰਜਾਬ) ਵਿਖੇ ਸਰਦਾਰ ਟਹਿਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਹੋਇਆ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਢਲਾ ਨਾਮ ਸ਼ੇਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਸੀ। 7 ਸਾਲ ਦੀ ਉਮਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਮਾਤਾ-ਪਿਤਾ ਦੇ ਦੇਹਾਂਤ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਉਹ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਭਰਾ ਮੁਕਤਾ ਸਿੰਘ (ਸਾਧੂ ਸਿੰਘ) ਅਮ੍ਰਿਤਸਰ ਦੇ ਕੇਂਦਰੀ ਖਾਲਸਾ ਯਤੀਮਖਾਨੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਲੇ। ਇੱਥੇ ਹੀ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਊਧਮ ਸਿੰਘ ਨਾਮ ਮਿਲਿਆ।

ਜਲਿਆਂਵਾਲਾ ਬਾਗ ਦਾ ਅਸਰ: 13 ਅਪ੍ਰੈਲ 1919 ਨੂੰ ਜਲਿਆਂਵਾਲਾ ਬਾਗ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਹ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਖੂਨੀ ਸਾਕੇ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ 'ਤੇ ਡੂੰਘਾ ਅਸਰ ਪਾਇਆ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਜਿੰਮੇਵਾਰ ਅਫਸਰ ਜਰਨਲ ਡਾਇਰ ਤੋਂ ਬਦਲਾ ਲੈਣ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਣ ਕੀਤਾ।

ਕ੍ਰਾਂਤੀਕਾਰੀ ਸਫਰ: ਊਧਮ ਸਿੰਘ ਗਦਰ ਲਹਿਰ ਅਤੇ ਹਿੰਦੁਸਤਾਨ ਸੋਸ਼ਲਿਸਟ ਰਿਪਬਲੀਕਨ ਐਸੋਸੀਏਸ਼ਨ (HSRA) ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜੇ। ਉਹ ਅਮਰੀਕਾ ਗਏ ਅਤੇ ਬਾਅਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਬੱਬਰ ਅਕਾਲੀ ਲਹਿਰ ਦੀ ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ ਮਿਲਣ 'ਤੇ ਭਾਰਤ ਵਾਪਸ ਆਏ। 1924 ਵਿੱਚ ਪਿਸਤੌਲ ਨਾਲ ਗ੍ਰਿਫਤਾਰੀ ਹੋਈ ਅਤੇ 4 ਸਾਲ ਜੇਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹੇ।

ਮਾਈਕਲ ਓਡਵਾਇਰ ਦੀ ਹੱਤਿਆ: 1934 ਵਿੱਚ ਉਹ ਬਰਤਾਨੀਆ ਪਹੁੰਚੇ। 13 ਮਾਰਚ 1940 ਨੂੰ ਲੰਡਨ ਦੇ ਕੈਕਸਟਨ ਹਾਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਮਾਈਕਲ ਓਡਵਾਇਰ ਨੂੰ ਗੋਲੀ ਮਾਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਭੱਜਣ ਦੀ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਨਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਗ੍ਰਿਫਤਾਰੀ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤੀ।

ਫਾਂਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ਹਾਦਤ: 1 ਅਪ੍ਰੈਲ 1940 ਨੂੰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ 'ਤੇ ਮੁਕੱਦਮਾ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਹੋਇਆ। 4 ਜੂਨ 1940 ਨੂੰ ਜੱਜ ਨੇ ਫਾਂਸੀ ਦੀ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਸੁਣਾਈ। 31 ਜੁਲਾਈ 1940 ਨੂੰ ਪੈਂਟੋਨਵਿਲ ਜੇਲ, ਲੰਡਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਫਾਂਸੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਗਈ ਅਤੇ ਅਸਥੀਆਂ ਜੇਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੀ ਦਫਨਾਈਆਂ ਗਈਆਂ। 1974 ਵਿੱਚ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਜ਼ੈਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਦੀ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਨਾਲ ਅਸਥੀਆਂ ਭਾਰਤ ਲਿਆਂਦੀਆਂ ਗਈਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਸੁਨਾਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਸਕਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ।

ਵਿਰਾਸਤ: ਊਧਮ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੂੰ "ਸ਼ਹੀਦ-ਏ-ਆਜ਼ਮ" ਵਜੋਂ ਯਾਦ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉੱਤਰਾਖੰਡ ਦਾ ਊਧਮ ਸਿੰਘ ਨਗਰ ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹਾ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ 'ਤੇ ਹੈ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਹਾਦਤ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਦੇਸ਼ਭਗਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਕੁਰਬਾਨੀ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਣਾ ਦਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।

Who is Nirmal Singh Sekhon?
Flying officer Nirmaljit Singh Sekhon, only officer to have received Parm Vir Chakra,India's Highest honor for his variance during 1971 Indo -Pak war.He single-handedly defended the Srinagar airbase against a Pakistani air attack, shooting down two enemy aircraft and damaging a third before his own plane was hit. Despite the overwhelming odds, his courage and skill prevented the enemy from achieving their objective of destroying the airfield.
