Hello,
This is a travel tip for people wanting to travel from Bangalore to Nepal. This can be tricky and time consuming if you are not flying. The following information is for people to use it at their discretion.
Air:
Bangalore to Delhi and then onward to Kathmandu. This will cost you around INR 9000/- one way if you book early. There are many flights but not in the evening. You have to take early flight out of Bangalore and then afternoon flight from Delhi. The best connection is with Jetlite. You are looking at INR 18000 for return fare at current prices.
Train:
2 trains from Bangalore to Gorakhpur. Train 2592 departs only on Mondays at 16:50 and takes 47 hrs. Train 5016 departs only on Thursdays at 07:40. This train takes 54 hrs. Sleeper price is around INR 550 and 3 tier AC is around INR 1500. From Gorakhpur you have to travel 3 hrs by local jeep (costs INR 150) to Nepal border town of Sunauli. Since the trains arrive in the afternoon, if they are not delayed; you might be able to catch a night bus to Kathmandu from Sunauli the same night. You reach Kathmandu the next morning.
1 train from Bangalaore to Muzaffarpur. Train 5227 departs Bangalore only on Wednesdays at 23:55. This train takes 52 hrs to reach Muzaffarpur at 04:00 on Saturday. From Muzaffarpur, it takes 3.5 hrs by bus to Raxaul from where you take a rickshaw to Birgunj. From Birgunj you take a bus to Kathmandu which takes around 7 hrs. From Bangalore to Kathmandu by this method costs around INR 2000/- one way.
Flight + Bus
If you want to save some money as well as save on time, you can take Flight + Bus. The easiest is fly to Patna in the morning (Indigo flies to Patna at 06:30) and then take a bus to Raxaul ( 6 hrs from Patna). You should reach Birgunj around 18:00 and then night Bus to Kathmandu. This would cost you INR 4500 one way if you book your flight early. For return fare by this method it would cost you around INR 8500/- (Flights are more expensive in October due to festival season)
Hope this helps someone.
