COVID-19 era has put us all in uncharted waters, but that won’t make us give up!

The human brain is (notoriously) superior to all other forms of creation.

On that note, here is an Introduction to an innovation by .ar .

In spite of the popularity of the digital calendars and other mobile apps, many people choose to stick with the traditional paper planners, and for good reason – a person who aspires to get a little order in his or her life knows well the advantages a paper planner has.

Many people prefer to use paper planners due to the countless benefits of the physical act of writing down an appointment or a reminder. These people are convinced that using a pen to jot in a notepad helps them remember their appointments, reminders, and items on their to-do lists easily.

Moreover, many studies have shown that while writing things down, people tend to perceive, process and digest the information better.

In fact, it does make sense. The process of writing helps prioritize the important things better and indeed organize them in the most convenient way, both in mind and on a paper.

If someone looks for the opportunity to create a system that works best for them and values the possibility to personalize the things, paper planners are going to be a great tool. Again, this depends on how much one believes that longhand feels more creative and individual.

And it’s even more special when your planner is personalised and totally handmade!

Benefits of using a planner.

Improves Organization:
Organization does not come easily to most students. It requires a conscious effort and a great deal of planning. Most often students gets confused and frazzled with having to keep up and plan for their many classes, assignments, test dates and so forth. Due to lack of organization, students’ work or grades often suffer.
Student planners provide an easy and creative method of taking note of their commitments and deadlines. It gives them a systematic approach to recording necessary information on a daily basis. These are then referred to over the course of time, enabling students to prepare and be ready with their class requirements and activities.

A planner is a tool to create organization and better communication. With these planners being a part of the classroom experience, students are more likely to keep track of their assignments, set personal goals, and track their achievements.

Tracks Achievements:
Student planners allow students to keep track of their goals. They can use the planner to write down their to-do lists and goals. As they accomplish goals throughout the week, they are able to build momentum and get inspired to work harder. Goal setting is a great skill to learn for school work as well as succeeding in life after school

Enhances Student Responsibility:
Having a planner gives students freedom to plan, organize and keep track of their work to the best of their abilities and requirements. This has a dual benefit in that it increases the student’s accountability to the commitments planned as well as provides them with a structure that contributes to their success. Using these planners, students are able to take full responsibility and accountability to complete their work.

Van Jones presented a graph that accurately represents the interaction between the four aspects of society and its different members. Consequently, Vones depicts why is art important to our society?

The graph represents our society.

Society is driven by the powerful elites, the dependent masses, government, cultural producers and artists.

On the left you have action, and on the right, ideas; elites are at the top, and the masses are below. There’s an inside act and an outside act.

On the inside, there’s big money: elites are spending millions of dollars to influence politicians and policymakers. The inside act has the power to influence policy creators.

On the outside, we at grassroots set our expectations and needs, so that the elected candidates pass laws that give us power. Masses reflect what society really wants (heart)

The left side, “action,” often means quantifiable policy changes. The right side, “ideas,” can be harder to see. We are not necessarily talking about concrete things here, but rather, a “headspace.” Academic institutions and think tanks, which are not always involved in the immediate policy wins, are significant in creating a culture of thought

While the left side, “action”, continues to produce quantifiable policy changes and new laws, the right side “ïdeas”, can be hard to quantify its outcome. Although “head” talks theories and academics, it fails to produce any significant contribution to policymakers.

Artists come into the play here at this moment

Artists are represented here on the side of ideas, in the “heart space.”

Art is uniquely positioned to move people—inspiring us, inciting new questions and provoking curiosity, excitement, and outrage.

‘ Blast off ‘ A space themed craft workshop!

Children learnt concepts of symmetry by making paper aliens. Learning how to cut with precision to make the perfect alien of their choice.

They also decorated their aliens with google eyes and paper bows and whatever they fancied their alien to look like. Super fun!

We also made Pastel planets. The technique of how to use pastel colours was taught to them. Although a little hard work but the result was worth it. It was followed by discussion about planets and solar system. We blasted them with fun facts that they loved!

We also did a simpler version of mixed media art by making an astronaut portrait.
Many of them were thrilled to use things such as foil , salt , bolts and nuts for art work.

A successful space exploration!

‘Another fresh new year is here . . .
Another year to live!
To banish worry, doubt, and fear,
To love and laugh and give! This bright new year is given me
To live each day with zest . . .
To daily grow and try to be
My highest and my best!I have the opportunity
Once more to right some wrongs,
To pray for peace, to plant a tree,
And sing more joyful songs!’ ~ William Arthur Ward

Wishing everyone a very Happy New Year!!

Haiku writing workshop @ unscripted. Sharing some of the work done by my students in just 2 days of practice.

Haiku is a form of Japanese poetry. Typically Haikus are written about nature , but they can be about any topic. Haikus have a very specific syllable structure of 5-7-5 and it has 3 lines.

Some of the benefits of Haiku writing are :

*Struggling readers and writers improve their command of syllabication

*Students increase their vocabulary as they search to find just the right word to “fit” in their haiku.

*They are learning to be more succinct as writers as excessive wordiness has no place in haiku poetry
students are practicing critical thinking skills.
