A tiny bird, but a very special one for birders visiting the Himalayas — Tytler’s Leaf Warbler (Phylloscopus tytleri).

This beautiful leaf warbler breeds in the Western Himalayas and is recorded from the Himalayan region of India, including Uttarakhand. During migration and winter, it can also be found further south in the Indian subcontinent.

For birders, finding a species like this is one of those moments that makes spending hours in the forest completely worthwhile. Tytler’s Leaf Warbler is associated with the Western Himalayas, and its restricted range makes it a particularly interesting species for birdwatchers exploring this part of India.

Our guests came to Uttarakhand for birding, and this was one of the birds they were hoping to find. And when this tiny warbler finally appeared, it was definitely a memorable sighting. 🔭

Tytler’s Leaf Warbler can be recognised by its long white eyebrow, greyish upperparts, greenish wings and slender pointed bill. It can be a challenging bird to spot as it moves through vegetation, making the encounter even more rewarding.

During birding session in Shyamkhet, our guest had the wonderful opportunity to witness the Rusty-cheeked Scimitar Babbler — one of the 10 species of Scimitar Babblers found in India. 🇮🇳

This beautiful bird is unique in its own way, especially known for its long, curved bill, which gives the Scimitar Babblers their distinctive appearance. 🪶✨

Today’s birding session in Ramgarh was filled with some wonderful encounters. 🐦🌿

Our guests had a great morning photographing a lively flock of Black-faced Warblers, along with several other beautiful Himalayan birds.

The morning brought us Himalayan Woodpecker, Maroon Oriole, Coal T**s, Sunbirds, White-tailed Nuthatch, Thrushes, Laughingthrushes, and Babblers — each adding something special to the session.

There’s something magical about mornings in the Himalayas. One moment you’re quietly waiting for a bird, and the next, another species appears among the trees.

For bird photographers and birdwatchers, every session brings new possibilities, new sightings, and plenty of moments to remember. 🐦🏔️

The Cheer Pheasant is one of the most distinctive pheasants of the Western Himalayas and one of the birds that makes winter birding in the Himalayan foothills especially rewarding.

Found on steep, open mountain slopes with grass, scrub and rocky patches, this pheasant prefers habitats quite different from the dense forests where many other Himalayan pheasants are found. Its habitat and behaviour also make it a bird that requires patience and careful observation — you can be scanning a slope for quite some time before finally spotting one.

For birders visiting Uttarakhand, the Cheer Pheasant is a highly sought-after species and a fantastic target during the winter birding season. Finding one in its natural habitat, watching it move across the hillside and getting a good view is an experience we never take for granted.

On one of our Ladakh Birding Tours, our guest got the rare chance to photograph several stunning birds at Tso Kar — and this Horned Lark was a real delight to spot.🥹✨️

Those "horns" aren't horns at all — they're small tufts of black feathers on the head, mostly seen on breeding males. They're most prominent during breeding season, especially when the bird is alert or displaying — though they're not always easy to catch on camera, since they often lie flat.

Still, spotting a Horned Lark up close in a landscape like Tso Kar is a treat in itself.
