One of the beautiful birds you can look for during the winter months is the Himalayan Rubythroat. With its striking plumage and shy nature, spotting and photographing this bird is a memorable part of a Sattal birding experience.

One of the special birds we were lucky enough to photograph during our birding explorations in Arunachal Pradesh — the White-winged Grosbeak.

Found in the high-altitude habitats around Sela Pass, this is one of those birds that makes the long journey and early mornings worth it. Encounters like this are exactly why birding in Arunachal Pradesh is so rewarding, with its diverse habitats and some highly sought-after Himalayan species.

One of the most interesting things about the Baya Weaver is watching how it builds its nest. It collects long strands of grass, carries them back to the nesting site, and carefully weaves them together to form the structure.

The process takes time, and the bird keeps coming back with more material until the nest starts taking shape. What looks like a simple ball of grass is actually a carefully woven structure built by the bird itself.

A small bird, a lot of work, and an incredible example of natural engineering. 🌿🐦

Not every bird in Ladakh is found soaring above towering mountains or gliding over crystal-clear lakes. Some quietly inhabit the vast, barren landscapes of the cold desert, perfectly adapted to one of the harshest environments on Earth.

The Desert Wheatear is one such resident. Found across the dry, rocky plains and open valleys of Ladakh, this small passerine is known for its striking black-and-buff plumage, alert behaviour, and remarkable ability to thrive in high-altitude desert conditions. Often seen perched on rocks or making short flights in search of insects, it is a familiar yet fascinating species for birders exploring the Trans-Himalaya.

During one of our expeditions in Ladakh, we were fortunate to spend some time observing and filming this beautiful bird in its natural habitat. Moments like these remind us that every landscape, no matter how barren it may seem, is full of life waiting to be discovered

Among the windswept plains and rugged mountains of Ladakh lives one of the Himalaya's most fascinating little mammals—the Pika. Small, quick, and incredibly alert, these alpine specialists spend their days darting between rocks and burrows, always keeping a watchful eye on their surroundings.

Despite their tiny size, Pikas are perfectly adapted to life in one of the world's harshest environments. They play an important role in the mountain ecosystem, serving as prey for birds of prey, foxes, and wolves, while their burrowing activity helps shape the alpine landscape.

This delightful encounter was one of the many special wildlife moments from our ongoing Ladakh Birding & Wildlife Tour. It's a reminder that in Ladakh, every corner of the landscape holds a story—sometimes told not by the largest animals, but by the smallest ones.
