As part of the YWCA campus masterplan, the Community Living Zone is designed to foster a sense of belonging and everyday connection. This zone brings together residential, semi-public, and shared spaces to support intergenerational living, care-based infrastructure, and informal interaction. By integrating built and open spaces with sensitivity to access, safety, and comfort, the Community Living Zone strengthens the campus as a supportive, inclusive environment for all who call it home.

As part of the YWCA campus masterplanning, the waterfront zone is envisioned as a vital interface between the campus and its natural edge. This zone is designed to enhance ecological resilience while creating inclusive spaces for recreation, reflection, and community gathering. Through thoughtful landscaping, shaded seating, and accessible pathways, the waterfront will become an inviting public realm that strengthens the relationship between people and nature, and enriches the overall campus experience.

Results will be announced on 23rd March at the Pelathope Urban Living Lab Open House — a collaborative effort by SKDO and supported by UCAN, with and .heritage.narratives helping bring these stories to life.

We are excited to announce the launch of the Pelathope Community archive on MARCH 21ST 2025. This initiative is incubated and curated as a part of the Constructing Personal Archives 2024 program. To know more, visit: www.curatingforculture.com, and is part of a broader initiative called The Pelathope urban living lab (PULL), conceived as an experimental niche that can bring together multiple stakeholders and practitioners to catalyse action research interventions spotlighting culture, heritage and ecology at the neighbourhood scale.

Our principal architect Shreya Krishnan says: "What initially started as a way to spread awareness about the built and intangible heritage of Mylapore has evolved into a more personal reflection on the nature of memory and heritage and how they shape identity. Going through archival materials belonging to my family as well as others, including photographs, documents, objects, and conducting oral histories in a process that goes from the outside in has peeled back layers to give me more insight into my family’s (and by extension) my story as well as the story of the neighbourhood’s evolution."

The hope is that this journey of discovery of unexplored histories will spark deeper conversations about the nature of memory, heritage and change in the urban context.
