More exploration … we headed up a side valley - in and out of the cool stream and the hot sun. We came upon petroglyphs, remnants of tools, and desiccated maize - cultural artifacts from the native peoples who lived here for centuries/milennia. The desert preserves the maize - what we found is likely centuries old. It’s humbling and inspiring to pass through these sites. Near our camp an ancient granary was visible high up the cliff - seemingly inaccessible today .. fortunately, I would say. What an epic space to be present! Sharing it with some truly incredible folks was also very satisfying. We learned much about each other, this special area, and how to respect and preserve it for future generations.
