This week’s story is about a place in India that has been on my mind since the very first time I visited: Kerala.

For those of you who have heard of Ayurveda.. Kerala is where it was born. Not the spa version. The real thing. And experiencing it there, surrounded by tropical forests and the knowledge of generations.. it is something else entirely.

But Kerala is so much more than that.

The backwaters. The tea gardens. The coffee poured from high in the air. And a banana leaf meal that made me rethink everything I thought I knew about food.

Kerala is one of those places that doesn’t just show you something beautiful.

It makes you feel something.

And that, for me, is always the sign of a place worth going to.

Every Friday, one story from this part of the world.

This week’s story is about a state in India that very few people outside of India have ever heard of: Himachal Pradesh.

And within it, two of the most extraordinary valleys I have ever traveled through. Kinnaur and Spiti.
These photos are from one of my earlier journeys there. And I still think about them.

You start in Kinnaur.. green forests, alpine villages, women in the most beautiful traditional dress, ancient Hindu temples carried through the mountains in procession. As a Swiss person, I felt strangely at home.

And then.. within hours, everything changes.
You enter Spiti. A high altitude desert. Tibetan Buddhist monasteries perched on cliffsides. Nomads moving with their yaks across vast, silent landscapes. Villages appearing like small oases in the middle of nowhere.

Two completely different worlds. Two completely different cultures. One journey.
Very few places on earth offer this kind of contrast in a single trip.

This is the kind of travel I have spent 30 years curating. Not just seeing a place. But truly feeling it

Every Friday, one story from this part of the world.

This week’s story is about something very special about the women of India.
Every region, every valley, every community ..a different traditional dress. Different colours, different fabrics, different patterns. Each one telling you exactly where that woman comes from.

In a world where so many cultures are slowly losing their identity.. the women of India are quietly keeping theirs alive.

Not for festivals. Not for photographs.

Just.. every single morning.

There is something deeply beautiful about that.

Every Friday, one story from this part of the world.

One of Asia’s best safari experiences can be found in Northeast India. 🦏🐅🐘 This week, I’m taking you to Kaziranga National Park in Assam.. a place that continues to amaze me every time I visit. From one-horned rhinoceroses to extraordinary birdlife and unforgettable wildlife encounters, Kaziranga is one of the many reasons I keep returning to this part of the world.

And it’s places like these that I love sharing with travellers who are looking to experience something beyond the expected.

I hope you enjoy this week’s story.

See you next Friday.

After all these years of travelling through Northeast India, I still find stories that make me stop and smile.

This week’s story comes from Meghalaya’s Whistling Village, where mothers give their children a unique melody that becomes part of their identity for life.

It’s discoveries like these that keep drawing me back year after year.. and why I love bringing travellers to this part of the world. There is always something unexpected to learn, experience and remember.

I hope you enjoy this week’s story. See you next Friday.

Hello, I’m Helen. I grew up in Switzerland, but for many years now the Himalayas have been a second home.
What began as a journey turned into a life. I raised my family there, built lasting friendships and spent decades exploring Sikkim, Northeast India, Bhutan, Bangladesh and the many stories hidden within these remarkable places.

Over the years, I’ve learned that the most memorable journeys are not defined by landmarks alone, but by the people you meet, the cultures you experience and the moments you never expected.

Every Friday, I’ll be sharing stories, insights and experiences from this part of the world that has shaped so much of my life.

If you’re curious about the Himalayas and beyond, I’d love for you to follow along.
