The Char Dham, or “four abodes! are the foursacred pilgrimage sites established by Adi Shankaracharya in the 8th century to guide devotees on the path of moksha (liberation). 🤍
Located in the four directions of India, each dham represents a form of Bhagwan and a deep spiritual lesson.
1. Badrinath (North) - Dedicated to Bhagwan Vishnu in his Badrinarayan form. Nestled in the Himalayas, it is where Nar-Narayan Rishi performed penance.
“Narayanaya paramam padam veda yato na nivartanti tasya padam vai vishnoh.”
(The supreme abode of Narayana is that from which none return - that is the supreme destination of Vishnu) ❣️
2. Dwarka (West) - The ancient kingdom of Bhagwan Krishna, where he ruled as king. The majestic Dwarkadhish temple stands at the seashore, echoing his divine leelas.
“Yatra Yogeshvaro Krishno, Yatra Partho Dhanur-dharah, Tatra Shrir Vijayor Bhutir, Dhruva Nitir Matir Mama.”
(Where Krishna, the Lord of Yoga, and Arjuna, the wielder of the bow, are present - there surely exists fortune, victory, glory, and righteousness.)🧡
3. Puri (East) - The land of Jagannath (Krishna), Balabhadra, and Subhadra. Known for the world-famous Rath Yatra, it’s a place where Bhagwan Krishna’s mysterious and divine form is worshipped.
“Purushottamam yatra nityam sannihito Harih.”
(‘In Purushottama Kshetra (Puri), Bhagwan Hari is eternally present.”)💛
4. Rameshwaram (South) - The sacred Jyotirlinga installed by Bhagwan Ram before his journey to Lanka. A confluence of Shaivism and Vaishnavism, symbolizing unity.
“Ishwar-anugrahena vina purushasya na siddhih.”*

Together, these four dhams represent the body, mind, heart, and soul of Sanatan Dharma. 🕉️
