Keravan Kerala a hit among entrepreneurs :

Over 100 applicants in 2 days of opening of online registration for caravan tourism project :

It appears that Kerala Tourism’s Keravan Kerala has been an instantaneous hit among entrepreneurs in the State.

People have made a beeline to register for operating tourist caravans and setting up caravan parks under the caravan tourism project. Within the first two days of opening of online registration, the Tourism Department has received applications for around 100 tourist caravans and 25 caravan parks. The caravans are expected to hit the road in January 2022.

“The initial response to the registration is fantastic. Most of the people registered are young and new individuals who are looking to do something afresh. This shows that there are many young entrepreneurs willing to come forward. We have also received some enquiries from the film fraternity. We hope some of them will register in the coming days,” says Tourism Director V.R. Krishna Teja.

The State Government unveiled the caravan tourism policy in September. It garnered great interest from the travel and hospitality sectors, among other stakeholders in tourism.

As per the policy, two types of tourist caravans can be operated in Kerala- rigid (vehicle and accommodation facilities are built as a single unit) and towed/trailer caravans (separate accommodation facility, which will be towed by a suitable vehicle for transportation). The caravans will have all the necessary facilities for a comfortable stay.

The Government has also announced subsidies for the first 300 caravans registered. The first 100 caravans will receive an incentive of ₹7.50 lakh or 15% of the total cost, whichever is less. The next 100 vehicles will get ₹5 lakh or 10% of the expenditure. For caravans 201 to 300, the subsidy will be ₹2.50 lakh or 5% of the cost. The investment subsidy will be given to a maximum of five caravans per entity or individual.

The caravan parks will come up in eco-friendly settings while ensuring the safety of tourists. It will have facilities for meeting the requirements of caravans and tourists.

Registration for Caravan Parks

Taking forward its stakeholder-friendly caravan tourism project expeditiously, Kerala Tourism Department has begun the online registration process for tourist caravan operators and caravan park facilitators.
While the investors interested in operating tourist caravans can make registration by logging onto https://www.keralatourism.org/keravan-kerala/register/tourist-caravan, those interested in establishing caravan parks across the state can join the project by doing the registration through https://www.keralatourism.org/keravan-kerala/register-park/caravan-park, a release said here on Tuesday.
All the details including the subsidies and incentives for investors, parameters of caravan operation, procedures and protocols to be followed and the norms for setting up caravan parks have been laid down in detail in the registration site which can be accessed through www.keralatourism.org/keravan-kerala
The caravan tourism policy, unveiled a couple of months back by Kerala Tourism Minister P A Mohamed Riyas, seeks to usher in a paradigm shift in experiential tourism by laying out the entire state with its diverse joys for visitors, including the panoramic nature and vibrant culture.
Within a short span, the project branded as 'Keravan Kerala' has elicited keen interest from auto majors, top travel and hospitality players, local self-government institutions and service providers down to the grass roots.
Under the policy, the first 100 caravans will get a subsidy of Rs 7.50 lakh or 15 per cent of the cost, whichever is less. The next 100 caravans will get Rs 5 lakh or 10 per cent of the cost, whichever is less.
For 201 to 300 caravans, it will be Rs 2.50 lakh or 5 per cent of the cost, whichever is less. The subsidy will be available for five caravans for an individual investor or a group, for three years.
BharatBenz rolled out its spanking new and features-laden tourism caravan last month. Commercial Vehicle makers Isuzu, Tata Motors and Force Motors are also to come out with their tourist caravans soon.
Hospitality major CGH Earth has announced plans to set up as many as 10 caravan parks in different locales, starting with its first park on a five-acre site in the backdrop of a tea plantation at Marayoor in high-range Idukki district.
The policy emphasizes that tourist caravans should be comfortable, fully regulation-compliant and safe, giving a homely feeling for the guests. There will be two models of caravans - those having two travelers on board and those for a family of four.
The caravans should have all in-built comforts such as a sofa-cum-bed, refrigerator, microwave oven, dining table, toilet cubicle, driver’s cabin, internet connection and GPS. Ensuring the safety of guests, the movement of caravans in any part of the state will be digitally monitored.
Giving thrust to sustainable development, the policy has made it clear that caravan parks will be located in natural settings without upsetting the environment, giving top priority to tourists’ safety and security.
Caravan parks can be developed as private, public or joint ventures or by local self government institutions on sites that fulfill the parameters. A park, which needs at least 50 cents of land, should have space to accommodate five vehicles at a time with facilities like food park, rest rooms, activity area and driver’s lodge.
'Keravan Kerala' has been conceived as a unique product promising the visitors a once-in-a lifetime experience combining the luxury of caravans, the idyllic settings of caravan parks and village life experience provided by the globally acclaimed Responsible Tourism initiative of Kerala.

CGH Earth plans 10 caravan parks across Kerala.

Giving a big push to Kerala’s stakeholder-friendly “Keravan Kerala” initiative, hospitality major CGH Earth on Thursday announced its plans to set up a string of 10 caravan parks across the state. The first such caravan park will come up at Marayoor, famed for its panoramic settings in high ranges of the Idukki district.
After a meeting with Tourism Minister P A Mohamed Riyas here to share its plans, CGH Earth’s Director Michael Dominic said the group will be developing the caravan parks in an environment-friendly manner as laid down by the Government in its Caravan Tourism Policy, announced last month.

“It is heartening that a major hospitality sector player from Kerala itself has come forward with plans to create a number of caravan parks, in a sustainable manner and without disturbing the natural surroundings of the locale,” the Minister said.

Dominic said the caravan parks will be set up by complying with CGH Earth’s core values of caring for the environment and working with local communities. The business model of the group, which has over a dozen hotels in Kerala and other states, is based on Sustainable and Responsible Tourism.
The caravan park at Marayoor will be coming up on a five-acre site against the backdrop of a tea plantation. To start with, it will have space for five caravans to park at a time. The park will have an activity area, accommodation and rest rooms for drivers, restaurant, and all other requirements for the comfortable stay of guests.
The Caravan Tourism policy has two main components— Tourist caravans and Caravan parks. The policy aims at exploring the possibility of turning accessible but unexplored places in the state into alluring destinations for the caravan travellers to park and stay. The initiative is designed to make tourism a sustainable activity that would bring benefits to local communities and also scale up opportunities for the industry.
