No matter how many times i visit Zangla Khar, the place will always remain special for me.
One of the outstanding sites in Zanskar from the second diffusion of Buddhism is Zangla Khar which formed an intergral part of Ngari Korsum in the 10th /11th century. Detsug Gon the youngest son of Nyima Gon inherited Zanskar as part of his share when the kingdom was divided among his three sons. Nagri Korsum as a region at one time stretched from Western Tibet all the way to Ladakh and Zanskar .
What remains today apart from the Khar are the ruins of the ancient settlement and Buddhist Stupas around the royal complex. I can imagine what the complex would have looked like during its hey days.

Stopped enroute Padum at Zamathang to witness the best site Zanskar offers in terms of Rock art . I have been to this site multiple times over the years and this time i had the opportunity to show our Zanskari Chommo's , now studying Buddhism in the bustling town of Dharamsala in Himachal to witness something new in their own land . Both were unaware about the existence of prehistoric Rock art in their land of birth until now. Their teacher Norgyal , a refuge Tibetan also got the first sighting of these ancient carvings in the high Himalayas . Tenzin La as usual was quite excited to stumble upon another Petroglyph site.

Rare sight of engraved Bodhisattvas depicting Kashmir art from 8 th - 12 th century CE period along the old mule track that formerly went through my village in Gundla, Lahul valley.
In the background the mighty Pir Panjal range can be seen towering high with its glaciers holding to it since ages.
