SIACHEN Base Camp - Military Protected Area, No Entry after this Point. In front, the road goes to the Army Campus on Nubra Riverside & far away the starting of 76 KM long GLACIER which is also the source of water of Nubra River. It is the longest GLACIER located in the Eastern Karakoram range in the Himalayas & second-longest in the World's non-polar areas. So sometimes it is called the "Third Pole" after the North & South Pole as well as the "Highest Battlefield in the World".
Altitude ranges from 11875 FT to 25330 FT, the average Winter snowfall is more than 1000 cm (35 FT) and the temperature can dip to -50 Degree Centigrade. Including all tributary Glaciers, the SIACHEN GLACIER System covers about 700 Square KM between the LoC of India-Pakistan and India-China Border...
