Madura is an attempt to rediscover this splendour of Madurai – its varied heritage, its ancient towers, its vibrant people, its quaint self-contradictions – through music. This musical tribute to Madurai captures its unique features – showcasing the cultural heritage of Madurai. Two songs will also be made into music videos – to share the colours and sights of the city. We seek your s

upport in raising the funds to meet the expenses in making this album. Your contribution to Madura will help in spreading the social and cultural heritage of Madurai. Proceeds from the sales of the CDs will be channelled to institutions that work towards preserving and promoting the heritage of Madurai. To make a contribution, write to me ([email protected]). This page will keep you updated on the progress in making this album including a foretaste of the songs. We look forward to your patronage for the success of this project.

'Mahema' is a virtual, nostalgic journey through Madurai from the perspective a very special couple Mahema and Manohar Devdoss. The couple met with an accident in in early 1950 that left Mahema paralyzed below her shoulder. She spent rest of her life on her bed and wheel chair until she passed away in 2008. Manohar took care of her so well that she has never had even a sign of a bed sour. A few years into their new life, Manohar started gradually loosing his eye sight.They both accepted the reality and led a very happy life supporting each other. With his amazing artistic talent and seeing through Mahema's eyes, Manohar created over 800 sketches of Madurai - it's temple towers, unique buildings, rural landscapes, festivals and many more. This music video is a conversation of Manohar with late Mahema in which he cherishes his memories about boyhood days in Madurai and about their life together.
