A social media journey... in the harsh internet world.
Helmet off Rosie!
THIS INDUSTRY WILL EAT YOU ALIVE
Before I started my journey in social media, I was told by friends that I couldn’t handle it. That I was “too sensitive” to receive the kind of critique and judgment from the harsh internet world.
Because every Tom Dick and Harry has a “voice” now and won’t hesitate to destroy you with their toxic keyboard rants and slander.
And they were right.
I was a frail woman coming into a “mans world”. Choosing the road less traveled on two wheels, sharing vulnerable emotions, struggles, and highlighting cultures and regions that were highly stigmatized and not accepted much in the west.
You can imagine the kind of comments I received in the beginning. I was the laughing stock of the “Adv riding world”.
At first, I would go to all lengths to defend myself. I took each and every comment personally. And as a highly sensitive person, this really affected me.
But as time went on, the more i grew, and came to know myself better. I realized there is nothing wrong with me, it’s actually them.
I became stronger and more confident in who I was, and began to see things more clearly.
Hurt people HURT people.
People who intentionally hurt others without a conscious idea of what they are doing, are actually deeply wounded individuals. They haven’t been able to process or acknowledge their pain, so it sits below the surface like an active volcano waiting to explode. And when something triggers them ... boom 🤯.
Insecurities, fear, rage, jealousy. When someone attacks you, this is what they are experiencing.
Nothing negative they say is an actual reflection of who you are, rather it is a reaction to their own pain they are projecting onto you.
When I read hate comments now, my heart saddens for their pain and I send a prayer of healing. Because they are only hurting and cannot see what they are doing and sadly it is actually hurting them more. It no longer affects me like it once did.
To all those who have been victims of bully’s or received unsolicited hate, know that it has nothing to do with you. Allow it to be a reminder of who you are, don’t get sucked in to their black hole, but stay strong and be that bright shining star 🌟
