The dining hall of the Lalbagh palace is made using marble and wooden flooring which gives it a sense of luxury. The hall was used to host family functions as well as receptions with royal invitees. The Holkars held the priestly class (or Brahmins) in high esteem and frequently invited them to the palace for dinners and other rituals.

Albert Edward, Prince of Wales, made a tour of India in the 1870s, during which he visited and received many Indian royals and officials.

On the 9th of March, 1876, the Prince reached his final stop which was Indore. He visited the Maharaja of Indore, Tukojirao Holkar II, at his palace Lalbagh, where he was received in Durbar. Holkar II led him to a room where his presents were laid out, and picked up an exquisite ring and placed it on the Prince's finger. A state dinner followed at a pavilion erected specially for the occasion, to which eighty European ladies and gentlemen were invited.

Ekambareswarar Temple (Ekambaranathar Temple) is a Hindu temple dedicated to the deity Shiva, located in the town of Kanchipuram in Tamil Nadu, India. It is significant to the Hindu sect of Saivism as one of the temples associated with the five elements, the Pancha Bhoota Stalas, and specifically the element of earth, or Prithvi. Shiva is worshiped as Ekambareswarar or Ekambaranathar, and is represented by the lingam, with his idol referred to as Prithvi lingam. His consort Parvati is depicted as Elavarkuzhali. The presiding deity is revered in the 7th century Tamil Saiva canonical work, the Tevaram, written by Tamil saint poets known as the nayanars and classified as Paadal Petra Sthalam. The temple also houses Nilathingal Thundam Perumal temple, a Divyadesam, the 108 temples revered in the Vaishnava canon Nalayira Divya Prabhandam.
