No matter how uncertain life is, it's the ability to find happiness in little things which keeps us going. Last year around this time we were in a state of panic, wondering how would we even survive indoors or staying away from loved ones, with limited groceries, but we are here today, stronger and resilient. Though 2020 was not all rosy for everyone, including me but I would like to remember the last year as a year of growth. This picture was captured when I was reflecting on a vulnerable moment of my life. Our Trek leader had given this exercise to us. And though it seemed difficult to share our low moments with the group, we appreciated how despite all those low and vulnerable moments we were in the Himalayas, camping with the views of Bhagirathi peak and river, attempting this beautiful trek. Life is all about counting your blessings and living in the moment and this is my key takeaway from last year. Thanks to this trek and our trek leader for reminding us to practice gratitude.

As soon as we reached our campsite at Tapovan, the weather changed drastically. The temperature dropped and the clouds covered Mt Shivling, Meru and all nearby peaks. We couldn't even watch and capture the sunset properly. For some even coming out of tents was a task because of the climb and weather. After some snacks and cups of tea we started enjoying the weather, but the clouds blocked the views. When the clouds started to clear, it was dark already and we saw the crescent moon rise, just above the Shivling. For me and few other trek mates that moment seemed like a powerful spiritual message, as if Lord Shiva showered his blessings on us.

You do not need to travel far for beautiful sunsets and colourful skies, just be a seeker of everyday magic. With the busy city life, it becomes difficult to enjoy this magic everyday, but make sure you witness it on the weekends.

In the middle of all the chaos, I had an amazing birthday, the perfect balance of nature, good friends, party and chill scenes 🙂 So blessed to have such good friends like family, and to live in abundance with nature. A year full of growth, challenges and of course a lot of fun.

Life is a journey, and not a destination. Trekking always reminds me of this and has taught me to enjoy every phase of life, the small moments and little things. The 10-12 hour journey to the base camp always refreshes me, not only it gives the much needed me time but also I get to meet so many interesting people on the way. The journey to every campsite is so beautiful, we appreciate the rest points, the weather conditions, the forest patches giving us shade, and the mountain views. We appreciate every single breath and introspect every day. It doesn't matter that you met your trek mates a few days before, they become your family, and we celebrate every small victory together. Trekking has truly transformed me and that's why whenever I get a chance to take a long holiday, I try to take a Himalayan Break and come back with a fresh perspective every time.

And that's the thing about backpacking hostels, even if you stay there for few hours or days, the memories you make last a lifetime. I was really tired by the time I reached Zostel Mussoorie, as I had started my day at 2 am to catch an early morning flight and then the road journey. I entered the hostel from the back gate, had to hike a little as my cab driver was tired as well and dropped me at the wrong turn 😂 so adventure started early for me. But as soon as I reached the property I was mesmerized by the vibes and beauty of the place ! Straight out of dreamland. I took a short nap and then chilled at the cafe, met some interesting people, shared some stories, enjoyed the bonfire and shared laughter with fellow travellers. Just Zostel things ❤️

Oh how much I missed travelling ! I know this coming from me sounds funny as I have been locally exploring, hiking, spending time in nature and my Insta feed and stories is always about exploring. But long distance travelling and backpacking has its own charm. I missed the feeling of getting up early morning to catch a flight, reaching a new city in and soaking up the vibes of the place, meeting new people, interacting with the cabbies, making friends with other solo travellers and backpackers, having chai, breakfast, lunch with views on long road journeys and ultimately ending the day realising how eventful your day was and my counting your blessings. I realised how few hours of travelling can make a difference, how eating a meal alone in completely a new place makes you feel so rejuvenated, how exploring locally with new friends and connections makes you grow and appreciate life better.

Last year, around this time I was in really bad shape, not just physically but even mentally. Even though I had decided long back to break free from my abusive relationship, it was difficult to tell him no when he came back victim playing and asked to "meet once".
It's a year of being in absolute no contact with him, and I am so glad I took that step, I am so glad I blocked him everywhere and started my journey of self-love and healing again. This is me today, stronger both physically, mentally and emotionally. I am amazed by my growth in these 12 months and I ain't stopping. Yes, the path to healing may look messy in the beginning but eventually, it becomes beautiful, and with supportive friends and family members, it becomes easier with time. Speak up, take a stand for yourself, if you see your mental health declining talk to someone, take a hot shower, remind yourself it's temporary and prioritize yourself. Your mental health is as important as your physical health, do whatever you need to do to take care of it.
