HISTORICAL BACKGROUND OF CHARAIDEO DISTRICT:-
Charaideo was the first capital of ahom kingdom in the in year of 1228-1253AD.Charaideo commonly known as Pyramids of Assam.Charaideo Tai ahom means “A Prominent city on the hill Top" (Cha - a city, Rai - Prominent, Doi- hill). The actual number of maidam has exceeded 150 but only 30 moidams are protected by Archeological survey of india and Assam state Archeological Department. But Most of the moidanms are unprotecd. Some people are encroached and going to damaged. Charaideo have been call for the site to be UNESCO world Heritag sited.It is a holy worship place for ahom Community. Charaideo was also belived to be the bode of god 'Lankuri' indentified with lord Shiva.
DISTRICT ADMINISTRATION OF CHARAIDEO:-
Charaideo is 45 km away from Sivasagar District.it is a new dist. of Assam. it is announced 15 Auguest 2015 by Ex. Chief Minister of Assam Tarun Gogoi. it is a heritage district of Assam.In charaideo the main town or District Headquater is sonari. Sonari is not a big Town but it is a important commercial place of charaideo District.There is a Sub-Divisional Court and an S.D.O. court at Rajadhap. the district administration is headed by the Deputy Commissioner. The Deputy Commissioner also act as the collector in case of Revenue matter, as district magistrate in case of maintenance of law & order etc. D.C is aided by a number of officers like Addl.Deputy Commissioner, Sub-Divisional officer and Addl. Assistant Commissioner.
