One of my favourite drives on the island. As you leave the coast behind and wind your way through Fig Tree Drive (named after banana trees and not figs 🍌), the lush green rainforest unfolds before you. Be sure to leave time to visit the variety of local businesses dotted along the route - some of our favourites include the Antigua Vintage Tea House the perfect refreshment stop with delicious salads, sandwiches and cakes, Antigua Rainforest Zipline Tour for a zipline experience you won’t forget, flying through the treetop canopy, and Fig Tree Studio Art Gallery which provides the opportunity to view and purchase local artwork by Caribbean artists in the beautiful shaded setting beneath giant silk cotton and royal palm trees.

Get ready for breathtaking views! 🌿 A drive along the island’s southern side takes you through a lush green corridor into the rainforest. Pure bliss! 🌴✨

For those guests staying with us for a little longer, we highly recommend a day trip to Antigua’s sister island Barbuda. Located just under 30 miles north of Antigua you can fly there with CalvinAir Helicopters on a day charter or take a return flight with SVG airlines. Or alternatively if the weather is favourable you can go by boat either on the Barbuda Express Ltd ferry or with Barefoot Antigua on a shared or private charter.

Once there be sure not to miss the Frigate Bird Sanctuary especially during mating season which runs from September until April which is when you’ll see the male birds inflate their red throat pouches to attract a female.

Another stunning sight is the pink sand beaches, which is not actually sand but tiny pink shells deposited by the waves.

The two most popular lunch spots tend to be the beachfront Uncle Roddy’s or Nobu (both are an option if travelling on Barefoot’s shared charter).

Post lunch, there’s time for a quick dip before your return transport back to Antigua. Alternatively if you fancy a few days peace and solitude, you can always bolt on a few days stay at Barbuda Cottages
