We have concluded our bird photography tour to Uttarakhand, a land of gods in the Northern part of India. This 10-day-long trip from February 28th to March 9th, 2026, covered areas like Sattal, a birding paradise for most photographers; Manila, a place that recently appeared on the birding map and is well known for Cheer Pheasant and Koklass Pheasant sightings; and Chopta, a land of Himalayan Monal.
During our photography journey, we recorded 150 birds, with all the big target birds photographed.

Our North India birding tour has started. Our first part of birding was in Sattal, a famous birding destination that offers relaxing birding activities with over 30 bird species in the hide. Some of the really difficult birds in the wild can be seen more easily in the morning. Our highlight birds among all were Black Francolin, Rufous-chinned Laughingthrush, Rufous-throated Partridge, and Green Magpie.
This tour will cover up some great birding destinations like Manila and Chopta in the state of Uttarakhand.

We had a truly amazing one-day birding trip at the Chambal River on the Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh border. This trip was completely different compared to our usual birding, as it was going to be on a boat in the Chambal River. The primary target bird was the Indian Skimmer. We saw more than 50 of them at a time within a few minutes of our boat ride. On top of that, Brown Crake, Bonelli's Eagle, and River Lapwing were a bonus. The Chambal River is known for an endangered reptile, the Gharial. We saw 5 of them along with Mugger crocodiles.

The second day of our GRK birding brings us a good number of birds sightings. Our primary target was a Gray Hypocolious which we saw in less than half an hour of search. Cherry on the cake was the flock of Chestnut-bellied Sandgrouse came and landed close by giving us enough opportunity to photograph them. Today was the day of the raptors as we saw Booted, Steppe, Greater and lesser spotted Eagle. Overall our main purpose of going to GRK is complete by the good sightings of Hypocolious.

Our one day of birding at Mount Abu was successful as we accomplished our target. After this our next destination was Greater Rann of Kutch in Gujrat. Now is the time to say good bye Rajasthan. It's going to be a long journey to Lodai village in GRK in Gujarat which was going to be our base for the next 4 nights. As we entered Gujarat we noticed the difference in the land. It was more of water bodies which you could see while driving. So pleasantly we were greeted by Saras Crane and Common Crane near one of the lakes by the road. There were several other birds like dozens of Graylag Goose, Painted Stork, Black-headed Ibis, Eurasian Sponbill and many other birds. That was the fantastic start of our birding in Gujarat.

Mount Abu, the only hill station in Rajasthan is a part of the Aravali range. The Aravali range starts near Delhi and touches Haryana, Rajasthan and Gujarat. Mount Abu has the highest peak of the Aravali range. This beautiful hill station has several different kinds of habitat including forest, lakes, shrubs and agriculture fields.
Our sole purpose of coming here is to see the only endemic bird called Green Munia also known as Green Avadavad. We reached the hill station at night after driving a long distance from DNP. We had a full day to find this special bird. The next morning as the sunrise was at 7 am, we headed toward Odia village. In a short while after the sunrise the bird activities started. We found this Green Munia on the track where they were feeding. There were at least 20 individuals all together. We gave our full time to these birds, observing and taking pictures till they were done and flew. There were several other bird species we saw around this place that included White-capped Bunting, Indian Yellow Tit, sulpher-bellied Warbler, Indian Scimitar Babbler and many other birds.

On our last day of birding in DNP, we were yet to see a couple of more new birds that we have missed till now. We started our morning safari in different directions. Our first bird was Trumpeter Finch, followed by Cream-colored Courser, and the long awaited White-browed Bush chat.
We had good sightings of some mammals like Indian Gazelle and Nilgai. At the end we had excellent sightings of three Eurasian Griffon and 6 Cinereous Vulture.
