To create awareness about the maritime industry and change the prejudice of this industry, the birds of common feather have come together and formed the Maritime Awareness Program Society (MAPS). Maritime Awareness Program Society (MAPS) is a non-profit organization created and established

to spread awareness about the maritime industry. The MAPS founding committee is an association of like minded members of the maritime industry who are with a common vision, purpose and goal. Maritime industry directly or indirectly reaches out to the entire society and has a multiplier effect on the economy. Maritime contributes significantly to global and sustainable development and prosperity by carrying the world’s cargo safely and efficiently at the fraction of the environmental impact and cost of other modes of transport. MAPS aims to connect with the general public and highlight these aspects and improve the way the sector is perceived. With Golf as the backdrop, MAPS Summit is an annual event that would bring together the leading dignitaries of the shipping industry under one roof and contribute to one single vision “ Maritime Awareness”

The MAPS Summit 2014 hence is the first step in this direction. The event is scheduled to be held on 22nd Feb, 2014 at the Oxford Golf Course Pune, with a golf tournament followed by a Gala Dinner. This summit will be supported by a robust media plan as well as sponsorship from reputed players in the market. Participation in this initiative is open to all from the maritime fraternity. On unveiling of the MAPS society, Mr. Sabyasachi Hajara, Ex CMD of the Shipping Corporation of India, Board of Directors at Doehle Danautic India Pvt. Ltd. (DDI) & Chairman of MAPS commented, “The shipping industry has tremendous untapped potential and through this event our industry will receive the right exposure and public awareness. Shipping is still passing through a difficult phase. However since both world economy and international trade are expected to register higher growth in 2014 v/s a v/s last couple of years we expect the fortunes of shipping would also be better in 2014. The shipping markets are expected to be significantly better from 2015 onwards.”
