Summary: Air India Suspends Tel Aviv Flights Amid Growing Middle East Instability
Flight Suspension Due to Missile Strike Fears
Air India has suspended its direct flights between Delhi and Tel Aviv until May 25, 2025, citing heightened security concerns after a Houthi missile strike near Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport on May 4. The strike, though not a direct hit, raised substantial alarm within global aviation circles, prompting Air India and other international carriers to reassess safety protocols across conflict-affected air corridors.

This decision disrupts the only direct air link between India and Israel and reflects the airline’s emphasis on passenger safety and risk mitigation. The suspended route accounts for approximately 1,500 weekly seats, according to OAG Aviation data.

Passenger Rebooking & Refund Options
Air India has rolled out flexible rebooking and full refund policies for all affected travelers with flight dates through May 25. Customers are advised to stay updated via official platforms and can use the airline’s website or customer care to manage changes. This effort is aimed at preserving consumer trust during operational uncertainty.

Wider Regional Aviation Crisis
The suspension is part of a broader pattern of aviation disruptions affecting countries such as India, Israel, Yemen, the UAE, Germany, UK, Pakistan, Turkey, and the US. The missile attack, linked to Houthi rebels from Yemen acting in support of Palestine, has prompted multiple airlines including Lufthansa and British Airways to pause flights to Israel temporarily. India’s DGCA has also issued advisories urging caution for carriers operating over conflict zones.

Economic Impact on Air India
The halted route is projected to cause up to $10 million in monthly revenue loss for Air India, considering both ticket sales and associated services like cargo and loyalty programs. However, industry analysts see the move as a prudent cost-containment strategy, avoiding risky and expensive reroutes over longer paths.

India has commenced the phased rollout of e-passports, integrating advanced security features through embedded Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) chips and antennas. These chip-based passports combine physical and electronic documentation, offering dual-layer data protection by storing information both in printed form and encrypted within the chip. This significantly strengthens security, making forgery attempts more difficult.

The e-Passports adhere to International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards, enabling seamless interoperability with international e-passport verification systems and automated border control facilities. Initially launched as a pilot program on April 01, 2024, under the Passport Seva Program (PSP) Version 2.0, the initiative began in twelve cities, including Chennai, Jaipur, Hyderabad, Nagpur, Amritsar, and Goa. Regional Passport Offices in these cities and in Bhubaneswar, Jammu, Shimla, Raipur, Surat, and Ranchi are now issuing e-Passports.

In Tamil Nadu, e-Passport issuance began on March 03, 2025, at the Chennai Regional Passport Office. As of March 22, 2025, 20,729 e-Passports have been issued within the state.

Carnival Cruise Line has announced changes to several of its 2025 itineraries, affecting voyages aboard the Carnival Venezia and Mardi Gras. The company is replacing the originally planned stop in Grand Turk with a visit to Amber Cove, a port located in the Dominican Republic. This modification is part of Carnival’s ongoing efforts to offer guests a more diverse range of destinations, while maintaining its commitment to delivering exceptional cruise experiences. While some travelers may be disappointed by the removal of Grand Turk, Amber Cove offers a blend of tropical beauty, thrilling activities, and cultural attractions that are sure to captivate all passengers.

The affected sailings include the Carnival Venezia cruises on May 11, May 26, and June 9, 2025, as well as the Mardi Gras cruise on June 7, 2025. Although the primary change involves the substitution of Grand Turk with Amber Cove, the overall duration of these cruises remains the same. Minor changes may occur to the schedule at Amber Cove or other stops on the itineraries, but guests can still expect an unforgettable vacation experience, with the added bonus of exploring a new and exciting destination.
