We know that Stupas play an important part in Buddhisim in order to spread the wisdom of Buddha.
But..But
Did you know?
Stupas were originally burial mounds for everyday people and had no religious significance back then but Buddha's death changed everything.
Books tells us that Buddha's followers divided his remains into 8 parts and distributed them among 8 kingdoms in which he lived. In keeping with traditional burial practices, devotees built burial mounds, which developed architecturally into Stupas, to house his remains.
There are generally 5 types of stupas, each with their own purpose to house remains or Buddha's life teachings.
