Just 28 km from Darjeeling, near Lamahatta, lies a little-known village—Tamang Gaon. A winding road, pine forests, the calls of mountain birds, tiny wooden houses, and the familiar scent of burning wood in the evening make this a serene retreat. Since it’s not well-known, there are no crowds of tourists. Just a short distance away, Lamahatta offers a beautiful roadside garden created without disturbing the ecological balance and biodiversity. Here, you’ll find various species of orchids. A short trek uphill leads to a small sacred lake, revered by the locals.

Only 8 km away, you can visit Takdah Orchid Center and Garidhura Fort on a day trip. Other nearby attractions include Glenburn Tea Estate, Rangli Rangliot Tea Estate, Lopchu, and Peshok Tea Estate. Additionally, just 8 km from Lamahatta, Peshok Viewpoint offers a stunning view of the confluence of the Teesta and Rangeet rivers, known as Triveni—a breathtaking sight.

LAMAHATTA ।।

Surrounded by Pine trees, Lamahatta, has been attracting many nature lovers, with her fascinating beauty. Later in collaboration with the state government and local people, Lamahatta became a great tourist destination of West Bengal. The word 'Lama' means 'Buddhist Monk' and 'Hatta' means 'Hut' or 'House'.

Height of Lamahatta is 5700 feet. This village is located just beside Darjeeling- kalimpong highway, only 23 km away from Darjeeling. Mainly Bhutia, Sherpa, Yalmos, Tamang and Dukpas are the permanent residents here. Farming and animal husbandry are their main livelihood. But recently, as Lamahatta becomes famous as a tourist spot, people are also making a living by making homestay and providing guest services.

You can see mighty Kanchenjunga from this resort Lamahatta, just sitting inside the room. This small hill station is ideal for those who are looking for an address to spend in seclusion near nature.

Without disturbing the ecological balance and biodiversity of nature, a Roadside garden have been built here. Different species of Orchids can be seen here in this garden. We've already mentioned the Roadside Garden or Lamahatta Park. There is also a small road from Lamahatta, reaches to the hilltop where you can see a small lake, which is very sacred to the locals. Another road from Lamahatta, surrounded by Pine trees can lead to Takdah, which is near about 8 km. Apart from this Takdah Orchid Centre and Gari Danda fort can be visited in a day's trip. Also Glenburn Tea estate, Rungli Rungliot Tea estate, Takdah Tea estate near Lamahatta worth visiting. Only 6 km from Lamahatta is Peshok view point from where you can see the confluence of Teesta and Rangit, which is known as 'Tribeni'. In a word, it's beauty is indescribable. Also visit the Cave Temple and the Lamahatta Monastery on foot. In a word Lamahatta is an ideal destination for two-day tour.

Distance from NJP to Lamahatta is 70 km and it takes near about 3 hours to reach there from NJP, by car.

Tukrey is a small hill village on the banks of Rangbhang river in the eastern part of Darjeeling district. Nepali speaking people live in this village. 8 km down the valley from Mirik lies the village of Tukrey at an altitude of 2500 feet. Besides the unique beauty of the mountain valley, come here if you want to get lost in the curved paths of the mountains. On the way, you will find many small tea gardens. Tea plantations like Bukim, Singril etc can be found on the way to Tukrey. At night, the beauty of the mountains increases when the light shines on them. Those who come to Sandakphu trek can also come here. Disstance from Manebhanjan to Tukrey is only of one hour. The river flowing by the homesteay creates a beautiful scenery. There are many orange and tea plantations along the banks of this river. In a word, Tukrey is a picture painted by the artist. Here you wake up with the sound of the river flowing by and the birds calling. A paradise for bird lovers too. A lot of Himalayan birds can be seen on the way through the forest.
