❄️Reykjavik during Advent: winter magic and Christmas traditions 🎄✨

During Advent, Reykjavik and many other Icelandic towns shine in a special light. The capital's streets glow like an atmospheric sea of lights, and cozy cafés smell of pastries and winter spices. A unique mixture of winter tranquility and festive anticipation hangs over the city. In Iceland, Advent begins with warmth and community, as well as a variety of Icelandic Christmas traditions ...

What to eat in Iceland during Advent:

🕯️ Laufabraud: A wafer-thin, artistically decorated Christmas flatbread traditionally cut and fried with family. It's a wonderful festive ritual and one of Iceland's most traditional Christmas dishes.

🕯️Hangikjöt is a dish made with tender smoked lamb that is served in many households at Christmas. It's undoubtedly one of Iceland's classic holiday dishes.

🎅 A special Advent custom is that instead of Santa Claus, Iceland has 13 Christmas elves, or "Jolasveinar." One after the other, they come down from the mountains to the towns and villages in the 13 days leading up to Christmas. In the evening, children put their shoes in the window and find small gifts in them the next morning. And yes, some children actually get a potato. 😉

Iceland during Advent is a blend of warmth, tradition, and winter magic – an enchanting time to immerse yourself in Icelandic culture and customs.
