Il 3 e 4 ottobre torna l’iniziativa di WWF Italia dedicata alla natura nelle nostre città, con eventi e attività in oltre 100 piazze italiane. Quest’anno particolare attenzione sarà dedicata ad api e impollinatori, preziosi alleati della biodiversità e del nostro benessere.
Le donazioni raccolte attraverso il miele WWF contribuiranno al Fondo Spazi Natura WWF, destinato a sostenere la natura e la biodiversità nelle nostre città.

👉 Un’occasione per riscoprire e proteggere la natura che ci circonda, anche in città!

Frederick II of Swabia: The Emperor Who Shaped Medieval Sicily

If you're planning to visit Syracuse, don’t miss the opportunity to discover one of the most fascinating figures in Italian history: Frederick II of Swabia, the legendary emperor featured in the immersive exhibition at Siramuse in the heart of Ortigia. At the museum, the experience titled“The Flight of the Falcon” brings to life the story of a ruler whose vision transformed Sicily into one of the most vibrant cultural centres of the medieval world.

Born in 1194, Frederick II was King of Sicily, King of Germany, and Holy Roman Emperor. Yet his legacy extends far beyond politics and power. Known by his contemporaries as“Stupor Mundi” – the Wonder of the World – he was a scholar, scientist, patron of the arts, and a passionate observer of nature. He spoke multiple languages and welcomed scholars, philosophers, physicians, and scientists from across Europe and the Mediterranean to his court, creating a unique environment where different cultures and ideas could thrive together.

Sicily was at the heart of his empire. From Palermo, Frederick governed a kingdom that was remarkably advanced for its time. He introduced important legal reforms, encouraged education, and promoted scientific inquiry. His curiosity about the natural world led him to write one of the most remarkable medieval works on falconry, a subject he studied with extraordinary precision.

Syracuse also played an important role in Frederick’s story. The city welcomed the emperor on several occasions and became, alongside Palermo, one of the key centres of his political and cultural vision. Today, Siramuse celebrates this connection through immersive storytelling, images, sound, and technology that invite visitors to step into the world of this extraordinary ruler.

More than 800 years later, Frederick II remains a symbol of knowledge, innovation, and dialogue between cultures. His story reminds us that curiosity, learning, and openness to different perspectives have always been powerful forces for progress.
