“I travel not to go anywhere, but to go. I travel for travel’s sake. The great affair is to move.”
— Robert Louis Stevenson
One of my favorite things to do when I travel is wander. Really wander. No checklist, no rushing to the next thing, no worrying about whether I’ve “seen it all.” Just walking and opening my eyes to whatever is around me.
I love picking a path and seeing where it takes me. Sifting through city streets, wandering down little alleys, stopping for a beautiful window, a bookstore, a café, a colorful doorway or a piece of architecture that catches my eye. I love the sounds of a place—the conversations, the music, children laughing—and the feeling of the sun on my face and cobblestones underneath my feet.
And I think you savor a place differently when you aren’t rushing through it.
Spain, Switzerland, Italy… wherever I am, this is a non-negotiable for me. Give me a few hours to wander with nowhere I have to be, and I’m happy.
Sometimes the best way to experience a place is simply to slow down enough to notice it. ✨
