📊 Massive Surge in Immigration Judicial Reviews at Canada's Federal Court (2024-2025)
The Federal Court of Canada is experiencing an unprecedented increase in immigration-related judicial review applications, driven by visa refusals, study permits, and other IRCC decisions.
🔢 Key Statistics (Official Data):
2024: 24,667 new immigration proceedings commenced.
This is approximately 4 times the pre-pandemic annual average (6,203 cases from 2015-2019).
2025: Expected between 31,000 and 33,000 immigration filings (projected full-year total).
The surge continues, putting significant pressure on the Court's resources and leading to backlogs.
📈 This extraordinary rise has prompted measures like extended deadlines and pilot projects to manage caseloads. Immigration matters now make up the vast majority of the Federal Court's workload.
