Orsanmichele 'the most florentine of all buildings' where civic values and devotion converge, right in the middle of the center, out of the tourist track and no lines, where renaissance sculpture started, with unparalleled 360 views from its large windows on the top floor where the grain store was.

WOMEN IN ART AT THE UFFIZI :

The recent exibit opened at the Uffizi 'Florence and Europe in the 1700's' . A multi faceted century with a great deal of attention given also to women in the arts as they started to travel during the Grand Tour becoming the protagonists of a new cultural season.

Portraiture in the 18th century opened up to the depiction of new key players in bourgeoise society. Female portraits were part of this variety. Artists began to portray themselves with compositional freedom alternating stiffer and official images with more original and spontaneous depictions focusing on their uniqueness and their creative genius.
