Six days dedicated to wine, tradition and the landscapes surrounding Florence. 🍷

“Il Toscanello d’Oro” returns with tastings, events, music and local flavours celebrating one of Tuscany’s most historic wine-producing areas. Across the hills around Pontassieve, vineyards, squares and historic spaces come alive with a programme that blends culture, food and community spirit.

More than a wine festival, it is a way to experience the rhythm of the Tuscan countryside at the start of summer, slowly, socially and with a glass in hand.

A quiet ritual, repeated for over five centuries, still lives in the heart of Florence. 🌸

Every May 23, La Fiorita takes place in Piazza della Signoria, commemorating the death of Girolamo Savonarola. Petals and flowers are laid on the exact spot of his ex*****on, a gesture first made the day after 1498 and carried on ever since.
A historical procession crosses the city, ending with petals scattered into the Arno from Ponte Vecchio, turning memory into a collective act that blends history, reflection and tradition.
A simple gesture, but one that still speaks across centuries.

Two chances to step back into the Middle Ages. ⚔️

On the hills above Lastra a Signa, the perfectly preserved village of Malmantile turns into a great historical celebration across two full weekends, with costumes, parades, performances and ancient traditions bringing the streets back to life.

Meanwhile in Florence, the Museo Stibbert recreates the atmosphere of another era through knights, armour and one of the city’s most fascinating collections.

From opera to rock, jazz to electronic, Florence turns up the volume all summer long. 🎶

Between May and September, the city and its surroundings become a stage for world-class music, with events like the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino opening the season, followed by the energy of Firenze Rocks, the атмосферic shows of Estate Fiesolana and the open-air vibes of MusArt Festival.

As the season unfolds, music spreads across every corner, from hidden cloisters and historic squares to parks and hills, with festivals like Firenze Jazz Festival and Decibel Open Air closing the summer on a high note.

A season that moves with the city, different sounds, different atmospheres, one continuous rhythm.

Florence through the decades, captured one frame at a time. 📸

Until October 18, Villa Bardini hosts Firenze ’50 ’60 ’70, an exhibition built around 150 extraordinary photographs from the Archivio Foto Locchi, tracing the city’s transformation across three defining decades.

From the elegant, optimistic atmosphere of the 1950s to the dramatic years of the 1966 flood and the social changes of the 1960s, all the way to the more reflective and experimental Florence of the 1970s, the exhibition becomes a portrait of the city’s evolving identity.

More than a collection of photographs, it is a journey through everyday life, fashion, culture, sport and collective memory, revealing a Florence that feels both distant and surprisingly familiar.

Until May 9, 2026, Florence hosts The State of the Union, the main annual summit bringing together leading representatives of the European Union to discuss key global challenges.

On this occasion, the European University Institute also celebrates its 50th anniversary with a citywide programme of public events, hosted across several cultural venues in Florence.

Among the highlights, a new exhibition space opens at Palazzo Buontalenti on May 8 and 9. The exhibition OPEN, developed in collaboration with the Museo Novecento, brings together contemporary art and academic research to explore the unseen structures behind economic life.

On May 9, Villa Salviati opens its doors for a special Open Day. Home to the Historical Archives of the European Union, the villa reveals its historic interiors, Renaissance chapel, decorated courtyards, caves and usually inaccessible park, offering a rare journey through its architectural heritage and the history of the European Union itself.

A unique opportunity European University Institute eting point between culture, research and Europe.
