Is This Rome's Best Food Tour?
If you've done Trastevere and the Colosseum, here's how to see Rome from a totally different angle: a morning eating through Testaccio, a neighborhood locals love and tourists skip.

Expect fine cured meats, balsamic tastings (some aged up to 25 years!), Roman street food, a lunch feast with local wine, and a side of ancient Rome you wouldn't otherwise discover. Here's the tour (aff):
https://maddysavenue.com/recommends/rome-testaccio-food-tour/

You'll wander Testaccio's central market, hit the local eateries, and get the story behind the neighborhood's "quinto quarto" food culture along the way.

If you're looking for a unique food experience away from the crowds, this is the Rome food tour to do. No tourist traps, just real Roman food.

Just a two-hour train ride from Paris, Bayeux is a must-add to your France itinerary!

If you’re into WWII history, charming medieval streets, oysters, and Camembert, you’re going to love Bayeux, France.

This 2,000-year-old town is compact, walkable, and beautifully preserved – with half-timbered houses, a magnificent cathedral, fromageries, and open-air markets.

And thanks to its prime northwestern location in Normandy, the day trips from Bayeux are endless, whether you have a rental car or not. Read my comprehensive Bayeux travel guide here:
https://maddysavenue.com/bayeux-france/

From wandering the old town and visiting war museums to seeing the D-Day Beaches and the Normandy American Cemetery and day-tripping to Mont Saint-Michel, the best things to do in Bayeux go way beyond the famous Bayeux Tapestry Museum (which, sorry to say, is temporarily closed).

And yes, even though I came for the history, I left dreaming about the local foodie scene… France’s finest oysters and scallops? Butter, salted caramel, and Norman cheeses like Camembert and Neufchâtel? Cider and Calvados? More, please!

My latest travel guide covers the best things to do in Bayeux, France - including the day trips I booked, the best places to eat, where to stay, how to get to Bayeux, and must-know tips to help your Normandy trip go smoothly.

Is Ischia better than visiting Capri?
The volcanic island of Ischia is one of the most underrated destinations in Italy. So if I were you, I’d visit immediately - before everyone else realizes that, too.

Between its natural hot springs, gorgeous beaches, mountainous landscapes, and incredible sunsets, Ischia is a true natural wonder.
Here's my Ischia travel guide so you can plan a relaxing day on Ischia:
https://maddysavenue.com/ischia-italy/

Ischia is affordable, peaceful, and easy to reach from towns along the Amalfi Coast - yet it’s dripping in ancient history and covered in vineyards, hiking trails, stunning coves, and quaint, colorful towns.

I had a feeling I’d fall in love with Ischia. But what I experienced there exceeded every expectation. As someone who’s long been obsessed with Italy - and has written dozens of travel guides on the country - I can confidently say Ischia is one of Italy’s top destinations. And a total hidden gem.

Read my guide to discover how to get to Ischia, where to stay, the best things to do, which restaurants and vineyards you can’t miss, and my must-know tips. Andiamo!

When Visiting Venice, Is It Worth Going to Murano and Burano Islands? This is a question I frequently receive. And it's an undeniable YES! 🛶 ✨

The adventure across the Venetian Lagoon is refreshing - and Murano and Burano Islands are so unique!

🇮🇹 Murano is famous for its centuries-old glass-blowing tradition. You can step into working studios and jaw-dropping galleries where local artisans shape molten glass into masterpieces. (Yes, you will be tempted to bring some home.)

🎨 Burano, on the other hand, is one of the most colorful places on earth. Picture bright houses lining peaceful canals, flower pots on windowsills, laundry fluttering on clotheslines, and the smell of fresh seafood in the air. It’s like a postcard… but better!

Whether you go on your own or join a small-group boat tour, visiting Murano and Burano from Venice is super easy and so worth it.

Think quiet canals, cute backstreet bars (called bacari), local lace, and lemony cookies - a world away from the bustle of St. Mark’s!

Are you wondering where to go in the magical, sun-drenched region of Puglia in southern Italy?

Puglia (A.K.A. the “breadbasket” of Italy) is the longest region, encompassing over 500 miles of coastline, from the southeastern Ionian Sea to the Adriatic Sea (just across from Croatia and Albania). That’s 10% of mainland Italy’s coast!

Home to vast countryside, rugged coast, and dense forest, Puglia is a dynamic region, ripe for exploration. From historic towns like Ostuni and Alberobello, to whitewashed coastal towns such as Polignano a Mare, to the ancient beechwood forests of Gargano, I've put together the perfect guide full of Puglia's must-sees and hidden gems:

Discover what to do in each place, expert tips, and helpful recommendations to help you plan your trip!

Amalfi Foodie Tips 🍋 🥗 🧀 🍷
So, the lemon groves, the sun-drenched cliffs, and the promise of fresh pasta finally convinced you to book that trip to the Amalfi Coast. And now you're wondering where - and what - to eat.

Good news: the food here is as spectacular as the views, and I've done the delicious research so you don't have to. From a hidden organic lunch spot tucked into the hills to zesty pastries, here are my top Amalfi foodie tips.

My favorite lunch restaurant: An easy 20-minute walk out to the low-lying hills behind Amalfi will deliver you to an all-organic foodie oasis. Agricola Fore Porta is open for lunch only, you need a reservation, and you’re going to love it! Don’t miss the antipasto della casa – with different cold cuts, cheeses, and veggie bites; eggplant parmigiana; two different pastas; and some craft cocktails. The menu changes daily!

Coffee and pastries: When it comes to morning espresso, pastries such as the iconic Delizia al Limone, or a summer-quenching gelato, head to Pasticceria Pansa Amalfi. Locals will be at the standing bar, but there are plenty of tables if you need a moment to re-energize!

Amalfi cooking class: This experience blew my expectations! On a lush piece of farmland, overlooking the sea, the location for this outdoor cooking class couldn’t be more idyllic. Think bruschetta; ricotta-stuffed zucchini blossoms; lots of delicious salads; local pesto with sun-dried tomatoes, anchovies, capers; gnocchi alla Sorrentina; and more… Check it out here:

How to Plan 8 Days in Sicily 🏝️ 🌋 🍋 🇮🇹
After falling head over heels for this incredible island, here's how I would plan an 8-day Sicily itinerary! Sicily has absolutely everything: breathtaking coastlines and stunning beaches, mouth-watering produce and iconic food, ancient ruins, and a bold personality. Here's exactly how I'd spend 8 days:

Days 1-3: Palermo
Sicily's chaotic, captivating capital is a feast for the senses! Dive into the buzzing street food markets, marvel at the baroque architecture, and soak up the gritty, electric energy that makes Palermo unmissable.
https://maddysavenue.com/things-to-do-in-palermo-sicily/

Days 4-6: Cefalù
Just an hour from Palermo, this dreamy coastal town is the perfect place to slow down and enjoy time by the beach. Wander medieval streets, swim in crystal-clear turquoise water, and hike Rocca di Cefalù for impressive views.
https://maddysavenue.com/cefalu-sicily-italy/

Days 7–8: Taormina
Perched dramatically above the sea with Mount Etna as its backdrop, Taormina is stunningly beautiful. Spend time at Isola Bella, explore the ancient Greek Theatre, and admire the coastline from beautiful gardens.
https://maddysavenue.com/one-day-in-taormina-itinerary/

I strongly recommend basing yourself in each town rather than commuting. Palermo and Taormina have the widest range of hotels, while Cefalù is smaller and books up fast in summer. Wherever you stay, book early!

If it’s your first time in France, a Versailles day trip from Paris is a must - but so is planning wisely.

You’ve heard the famous quote, “Let them eat cake.” And you know how it all ended: with a revolution and a guillotine. But the story in between is what makes visiting Versailles so fascinating.

Versailles Palace (Château de Versailles) started as King Louis XIII’s hunting lodge in the 1620s. But by the time Marie Antoinette and Louis XVI were forced out in 1789, they’d transformed it into the ultimate symbol of overindulgent royal power.

When you visit Versailles on a day trip from Paris, you can explore the palace’s gilded state apartments, the Gardens of Versailles, and the sprawling grounds – including the Grand Canal, two more palaces (the Petit Trianon and Grand Trianon), and Marie Antoinette’s fairytale Hamlet.

I’ve visited Versailles three times so far (it's a quintessential thing to do in Paris, after all!). Here is my detailed Versailles guide with the different day trip options:
