Start of the Overseas Adventure Travel (OAT) in Northern Italy in April, with the addition of a great 5-days post trip in Venice and a new and special Optional Tour visiting the Armenian monastery on San Lazzaro island.

I loved the enthusiasm of this group, from Nancy’s committment to finding the hotel in Venice where her granparents stayed nearly 70 years ago to Wayne’s dedication to sharing his adventure with his family writing long emails with photos every day. Not to mention Claire and Brad’s knowledge and thirst for learning more, Betty’s constant smile and happiness and Robin and Art’s polite and lovely manners.

Working year started with some training to become a National Guide in Italy: Pompei, Ercolano, Napoli, Roma, Firenze, Fiesole, Siena, Montalcino, Venezia. This is just a tiny little part of all the sites we have to study to pass the exam 🤯 but as always it isn’t about the final destination, it’s all about the ride 🇮🇹❤️

Our hotel was in Montecatini Terme which, according to UNESCO, is one of the 11 great spa towns in Europe. Its jewel is Terme Tettuccio, where one can examine the routine that visitors to the spa undertake for their internal health by drinking the waters from the prescribed source (there are 4 springs, each with its own peculiar characteristics). The existence of sources here has been known since Roman times, but thermal waters have been used for therapeutic purposes since the 14th century. However, what amazed me was the thermal park and the magnificent palace, built in 1779-1781 by Gaspero Maria Poletti and renovated in 1916-1928 by architect Ugo Giovannozzi, who took inspiration from the ancient Roman thermal baths.
