Traveling will teach children the importance of making memories and enjoying experiences rather than always wanting possessions. There are endless opportunities for them to learn and grow. We want to share some tips to help you stay organized and make it the best it can be. Whether you are traveling with kids for the first time, or are a seasoned traveler, it doesn’t hurt to be well prepared. So, let’s right into it.

This cannot be emphasized enough! You have to plan ahead of your travel to avoid hitches that come with traveling. If you are unable to plan the trip yourself, it would be great to get someone who can do the planning for you. Plan out as much detail as possible. Every parent knows preparation is key, but the unexpected inevitably occurs. Leave enough room for flexibility and try not to over schedule yourself, lest you will be burnout. Be realistic as you plan and make a priority list of places to see or activities you would love to do while at your destination.

One of the best things you can do for your kids before you travel is to involve them in the planning. Ask questions to get their mind on the destinations you are thinking of going to before you zero down on one. Don’t just drop a bomb on them. They have to be mentally prepared. Involving kids in the planning allows them to share their expectations as well. You get first hand information on the things they would love to do, so that you are not just assuming that they will love what you had in mind. Also, it will get them super excited for the trip, knowing their opinion matters.

We highly recommend having snacks available at all times. It’s very essential when traveling with kids so that in case they get hungry or their favorite snacks aren’t available, you are still well prepared. You do not want to travel with a hungry child, they can get really irritable. Having snacks that are familiar to them can be helpful in adjusting to a new environment away from home. This is definitely a great tip for
traveling with kids.
Rᴇᴅᴜᴄᴇ ʏᴏᴜʀ ᴇxᴘᴇᴄᴛᴀᴛɪᴏɴs
Traveling with your kids will be far from perfect. A new place can be exciting and scary all at the same time for kids. Your child’s behavior may not be the best when you arrive at your destination and this could be due to a lot of reasons like different climate, different food, smells etc. Try as much as you possibly can not to get upset but be understanding and empathetic towards them.
You might have to make adjustments to your plans along the way for example if they are overwhelmed,
perhaps getting them a snack or even having to return to your accommodation in the midst of an activity.
Adjusting your expectations to accommodate their needs is a great tip for traveling with kids.

Depending on your child’s age, different activities will be fun and applicable to them. You want to plan with your kids’ ages in mind. For example, you can’t plan a full day of activities for a three–year–old, they will just get tired. Mix up the activities depending on your kids’ ages and interests. You do not want your kids to get bored, after all you are there to have fun as a family.
Sᴛᴀʏ ɪɴ ᴄʜɪʟᴅ-ғʀɪᴇɴᴅʟʏ ᴀᴄᴄᴏᴍᴍᴏᴅᴀᴛɪᴏɴs
Not every place of accommodation is designed to host children. You have to keep this mind as you choose your place of stay. Choose a place that is near restaurants, or activities you want to try out. This way the kids won’t get too tired and frustrated from the walking long hours especially in places with hot climate. This is a very essential tip for traveling with kids. You want to keep them from whining the
entire trip.
Sᴘᴀᴄᴇ ᴏᴜᴛ ʏᴏᴜʀ ᴀᴄᴛɪᴠɪᴛɪᴇs
As you plan to travel with kids, space out your activities. Try not to have back–to–back activities, especially those that are energy consuming. You want to leave some time for rest in order to avoid burn out. Kids need a lot of sleep. Don’t plan so many late nights. A few late nights are not a big deal, but if you keep your kids up till late and then expect them to wake up early in the morning, they will be grumpy during the day.
Pʟᴀɴ ʏᴏᴜʀ ᴘᴀᴄᴋɪɴɢ ʟɪsᴛ.
When traveling as a family, it’s so easy to get to the destination and realize that there are items you forgot. This is a very important tip when traveling with kids. Take time and write down items you will need for the family as a whole and individual items each member will need. For example, for the kids comfort items like pacifiers, sanitizer and wet wipes, kid size headphones, etc.
Pʀᴇᴘᴀʀᴇ ᴀᴄᴛɪᴠɪᴛɪᴇs ᴏʀ ᴇɴᴛᴇʀᴛᴀɪɴᴍᴇɴᴛ ғᴏʀ ᴛʜᴇ ᴊᴏᴜʀɴᴇʏ
There are so many ways to amuse little kids when traveling and something new is always the winner. You could try playsets, that let kids create their own creatures or princess fairies. Coloring and activity books are also great distracters. And if someone tells you showing your kid a movie on your iPad is wrong, well then you don’t want to be right. Another fun idea is bringing new surprises on board, hidden in your own carry–on. A small activity in the beginning to do on the plane, maybe followed by a small stuffed animal, and then a final prize once the flight has landed to open while waiting for everyone else to slowly get off. (This can be the hardest part for a little kid, who wants to get off right away and can’t handle the orderly front–to–back sloth crawl. Honestly, even adults are impatient at this part.)
Taking a family vacation is unlike any other experience in the world. It is a great chance for you and your children to get out in the world and explore. The greatest legacy we can leave our children is happy memories. There will never be a perfect time to travel with your children, so do it now, before the opportunity passes you by. You can’t turn back time! So, let’s invest in creating happy memories with our children by traveling together as a family. These are memories they will treasure all their lives.
