A visit to Tochoji Temple is a must do in Fukuoka City especially in spring when the cherry blossoms are in full bloom. 🌸 Built by Kukai, the founder of the Shingon Buddhist sect in 806 AD, the site is not only a Designated Important Cultural Asset but inside is “The Great Buddha of Fukuoka” - the largest wooden statue of a Buddha seated on a pedestal in Japan! Standing at 10.8 metres high and weighing 30 tonnes, the statue is a must-see.
