7月中旬、ようやく念願叶い吉野～熊野本宮間の大峯奥駆道を歩くことができました。当初4泊5日の想定でしたが、3日目予定の避難小屋まで辿り着けず日没、真っ暗な山道をひとりヘッドライトの灯りを頼りに歩き続けてましたが、歩くこと15時間、ライトの灯りのみではとうとうルート判断が出来なくなり、道迷い遭難を避けるため山中ビバーク、6日目にしてようやく熊野本宮の階段を登ることができました。

途中、熊の足跡を見てしまったり、鹿の鳴き声がこだまする真っ暗な山中で心細くテント設営したり、2日間山中で誰とも出会わず、会話もなく、心折れそうになることもありました。あの頂へ登ったら次の目的地かと思いきや、また下り、また登りの連続・・・次の目的地には裏切られぱなしでしたが、ある意味人生とよく似た修行のような旅だったのかもしれません。いや、ここは修験の道ということだけあって肉体的にも精神的にも限界を試すまさに修行の道だと実感しました。

人との繋がりの大切さ、水の大切さなど、いろんなことを学ばせて貰えた貴重な6日間でした。初日の大雨以外は概ね天候にも恵まれ、何よりこの行程を歩かせて貰えたこの健康があることに感謝し熊野本宮を後にしました。

This is my travel log for Omine Okugake Pilgmage Trail in Nara & Wakaama prefecture western Japan. This trail belongs to World heritage site Kumano Kodo and the route is for Shugendo training, the trail runs between Yoshino and Kumano Sanzan over 170km through high mountain ridges.
