If you are planning a ski or snowboard trip to Japan for 2027, here is the practical reality and logistics you actually need to know 🏔️🇯🇵
1. Luggage Forwarding (Takkyubin)
Do not attempt to haul oversized ski bags through crowded Tokyo train stations or Shinkansen during rush hour. Use Japan’s luggage delivery service to ship your gear straight from the airport to your resort hotel. Your sanity will thank you.
2. The Snow Quality (Japow):
The hype is real. January and February bring Siberian winds that dump feather-light, deep powder almost daily. Make sure you have wider powder skis or a board with proper float to handle it.
3. Cash Still Rules:
While major resort hubs accept cards, mountain village buses, local izakayas, and traditional hot springs off the beaten path still rely heavily on cash (Yen). Always keep some on hand.
4. The Recovery:
Freezing on the slopes all morning followed by an outdoor volcanic onsen and a steaming bowl of authentic ramen is a level of recovery you won’t find anywhere else.
