Nagahama Castle, where Toyotomi Hideyoshi spent time as the castle lord in the late Sengoku period, was abandoned in the early Edo period. Its structures were relocated to Hikone Castle and Daitsū-ji Temple.
Only a small portion of the stone walls and a well remained on the original site, but the castle was reconstructed in 1983, and today its interior is open to the public as a history museum.
