You must have at least 1 (ONE) of the following + PASSPORT:

1. Valid 1949 International Driving Permit (IDP) issued by an authorized agency.
• Must be based on the 1949 Geneva Convention / 1949 on Road Traffic Act.
• Valid for 1 year from issue date
• Please ensure you obtain your 1949 International Driving Permit (IDP) from the official government office or a properly certified agency in your country.
(Beware of scam or fraudulent websites offering overpriced or fake IDPs. Under Japanese law, we cannot accept any unofficial or counterfeit 1949 IDP.)
• Some countries are not part of the 1949 Geneva Convention, so please double-check your eligibility by visiting the official Japan Automobile Federation (JAF) website.

2. Official JAF Japanese Translation + Passport.
• For driver's licenses from Germany, France, Switzerland, Belgium, Monaco, and Taiwan ONLY.
• Translation must be issued in any JAF OFFICE. (Japan Automobile Federation)

3. U.S. Military based in Japan:
• Requires valid SOFA License + Military ID

4. Japanese Driver’s License
• For Japan residents who have Japanese driver's license.
