🌊 Okitsu Zagyoso 🌊

Okitsu Zagyoso was built in 1920 in Okitsu-Seikenji-cho, Shizuoka City, as a villa for the modern statesman Saionji Kinmochi (1849–1940). 📜🏡 It is an elaborate Japanese-style building, showcasing the finest craftsmanship and featuring abundant use of bamboo, a material Saionji particularly favored. 🎋✨ Located in a warm and scenic area, it was intended as a place for Saionji to retire from the political center and recuperate. 🕊️🌊 However, despite his personal wishes for a quiet life, many government officials visited him there, as he held the important position of Genro (elder statesman). 🤫💼
The current Okitsu Zagyoso on the site is a meticulously restored replica built in 2004. 🏛️🔨 The original Zagyoso was dismantled due to deterioration and relocated to the Meiji Mura (an open-air museum in Inuyama, Aichi) in 1971. 🗺️🚂 We invite you to experience this renowned architecture, showcasing the skills of contemporary craftsmen that rival those of their counterparts from a century ago! ✨👏

📅 Closed: Mondays (or the following weekday if Monday is a holiday), Year-end and New Year holidays
🕙 Opening Hours: Weekdays: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Saturdays, Sundays, & Holidays: 9:30 AM - 5:30 PM

🌉🐢Chigo-bashi ( Child Bridge ) 🌉🐢
There’s a fascinating legend about this bridge that dates all the way back to 1607! ✨ When the very first bridge was built across the Tomoe River, a mysterious child (Chigo in Japanese )appeared from the water right before the opening ceremony, crossed the bridge, and vanished! 👶🌊✨
Because of this mysterious event, the bridge’s original name, Ejiri-bashi (Ejiri Bridge) , was changed to Chigo-bashi (Child Bridge)! 👣📜 It is even said that a Kappa (a mythical Japanese river monster with a turtle-like shell and a dish on its head ) living in the Tomoe River transformed into that child to lead the opening ceremony! 🐢💧 That's why it is also famously known by its other name, Kappa-bashi ( Kappa Bridge ) ! 🛶🐢Why not see if you can find any traces of the Kappa? 😉📸
