Welcome to Japan

Welcome to Japan Welcome to Japan is built on one simple idea. To bring people together through food, culture, and real experiences.

I started this business to show you Japan the way I experience it, through fun local neighbourhoods, small family-run food spots, and the stories behind the traditions that shape everyday life here. You’ll feel comfortable, looked after, and welcomed, while still getting that spark of discovery that makes travel special. From walking and food tours in Tokyo to adventures beyond the city, if you want a meaningful experience that stays with you long after the trip ends, I’ve got you.

This hike accidentally became one of the best days I’ve had in Japan 👀⛰️

Sebby and I headed out early from Koenji to Mitake Station for what was meant to be an easy Mount Mitake loop 🚆

Breakfast in the sun ☀️
forest tracks 🌲
red bean and mochi soup 🍡
then up to Mount Otake ⛰️

And the view... ABSOLUTELY STUNNING!! 🤯

Layers of valleys stretched out like waves, and behind them was Mount Fuji, massive and snow-covered, just sitting there like it owned the whole sky 🗻

Then we met Mark, a random Aussie legend, changed the plan completely, and hiked all the way down to Okutama together 😂

That’s the magic of days like this 🙌

I wrote the full story on the blog. The hike, the view, the friendship, and the kind of random Japan day you can’t really plan ✨

If you’re travelling Japan, you’re going to see these names everywhere 🍶

Sake, shochu, soju, chuhai… 🤔
they all sound similar when you’re standing there trying to order confidently 😅

But they’re actually completely different drinks 🍻

Sake is brewed from rice and has deep ritual and seasonal meaning ⛩️
Shochu is distilled, stronger, and often tied to regional Japan 🇯🇵
Chuhai is the easygoing sparkling one you’ll see everywhere from izakayas to convenience stores 🥂
And soju is Korean, smoother, sweeter, and made for sharing over food 🤝

Once you know the difference, ordering gets way less stressful 🙌
And honestly… you enjoy the experience more too ✨

I broke it all down properly in the blog so you know what to order, how it’s served, and what each drink actually means 🍶

You haven’t truly travelled Japan until you’ve been confused in a train station 😵‍💫🚉

It happens to everyone 🫡
Wrong platform, wrong exit, wrong train going the completely opposite direction 🤦‍♂️

But knowing a few phrases makes a massive difference 🙌🇯🇵

Ask where the station is, where to transfer, which platform to use, or just admit “I’m lost” and get help 😅

You don’t need to speak fluent Japanese, you just need to be polite and willing to try 🙏
That effort goes a long way with locals 👏✨

We’re here to help if you want to explore so Japan feels less intimidating and way more fun 🤗

Save this before you jump on the next train 🔗📌

Most people think Ginza is just luxury shopping… 🛍️

And yeah, there’s plenty of that 💁
But Ginza has way more layers than people realise 🤔

Historic department stores 🕰️
Kabuki theatre 🎭
a Buddhist temple with Indian-inspired architecture ⛩️
and under-the-tracks spots full of food, design, and little surprises 🍶

Ginza is where old Tokyo, modern luxury, and everyday city life all sit side by side 🙌 ✨

Most people just come here to shop but there’s a whole story hiding in plain sight 🎌

That’s what Welcome to Japan is about 🇯🇵
Helping you find the meaning behind the places you visit ☝️

Save this for your Ginza day 📌

Usually we have to get a little lost in Tokyo to find the good stuff… 🙌
But sometimes the viral snack finds you first 😅🍓

This time, it was candied strawberries in Harajuku 🇯🇵
You’ve probably seen them all over your feed 👀

Bright red strawberry 🍓
crunchy candy shell ✨
sweet, juicy, and dangerously easy to smash before filming 😂

So yeah… apologies for the half-eaten one 🫣
I got a bit excited before the cameraman got his shot 🎥

But the real question is…
Are they actually worth trying? 🤔

That’s what this series is all about 🇯🇵
finding the fun little food moments and seeing what actually hits 🔥

There’s a lot of ways to end up in Japan… this is mine 🇯🇵

For nearly 10 years, I was working in mining back in Australia 🇦🇺

But honestly… it wasn’t me anymore 😅

The thing that actually lit me up was something I did on weekends, running an okonomiyaki street food stall at farmers markets in Perth 🍳🔥

Cooking Japanese food, chatting with people and sharing a bit of the culture I grew up connected to 🎎

That felt meaningful and I realised, that’s the stuff I wanted to build my life around 🙌

So I packed up my life and moved to Japan 🫡
To start Welcome to Japan! 🇯🇵

A tour company built to bring people together through food and culture 🍜 🎌

Ueno isn’t just a park… it’s a proper slice of Tokyo history 👀

You’ve got cherry blossoms in spring 🌸 world-class museums 🖼️ busy market streets at Ameyoko 🛍️ and temples that once sat at the heart of sh**un power 🏯

Then a few streets away, you’ll find shrines for students ✍️
Old-school neighbourhood culture 🏮

That mix is what makes Ueno special 🇯🇵

Most people don’t realise how much is sitting here 😅

That’s why we make guides like this ☝️
So you’re not just ticking off places, you’re actually experiencing the best parts of the city 🏙️ ✨

Some race days just stick with you… and this was one of them 😮‍💨🏃‍♂️

The Asics Tokyo Ekiden Relay had everything!
Hot weather ☀️ last-minute team changes 😅 fast 1.2km legs 🔥 and that proper Japanese ekiden energy 🇯🇵

I came in still building back from a torn hamstring, so honestly… I wasn’t fully sure how the body would respond 🤕

But the moment you grab the tasuki, you lock in 🫡
Every leg matters, every handover matters and everyone carries a piece of it 🤝

And this time, it all came together 🙌
1:04:08-ish ⏱️
1st place mixed relay 🥇
and a day with Namban Rengo I won’t forget anytime soon 🏆️

Full race blog is live now - read the whole story on the website 🔗👇

Not every temple in Tokyo is big and famous 🏯

Some are small, quiet and tucked into normal neighbourhood streets 🚶‍♂️

Like Enju-ji Temple in Yanaka 🇯🇵
People come here to pray for strong legs 🦵🙏

Which sounds funny at first… until you think about it 🤔

Your legs carry you through work, travel, daily life, everything 🤗
And that’s what makes places like this special, they connect belief to real life ✨

Most travellers miss this side of Tokyo completely 🤯

That’s what Welcome to Japan is about 🇯🇵
Showing you the stories hiding in plain sight! 👀

Not every day in Japan has to be deep cultural exploration… sometimes you just want big rides and zero responsibilities 🤗 🎢

And honestly, Japan does theme parks very well 🇯🇵

Tokyo DisneySea is in a league of its own 🌊
Yomiuriland has that relaxed local feel with seasonal illuminations 🎡✨
and Universal Studios Japan is loud, chaotic, and absolutely worth the trip if you’re chasing Super Nintendo World 🍄🚄

It’s not just “which park is best?” 🧐 It’s which one actually fits YOUR trip ☝️
Family day? Couple’s day? Half-day escape? Full-send Osaka mission? 🤔

That’s the stuff that matters when you’re planning 🫡

I broke it all down in the blog so you can pick the right one and not waste a day guessing 🙌

This is what spring looked like in old Tokyo 🗼🎌

Plum Garden at Kamata was made in 1857 by Utagawa Hiroshige, a master of ukiyo-e woodblock prints 🎨

Hiroshige had a gift for making everyday Japan feel cinematic: roads, rain, rivers, gardens, seasons, all captured with serious feeling 🇯🇵

Plum blossoms are an early sign of spring in Japan and happen before the famous cherry blossoms 🌸 🌱
They’re like Japan’s first little hint that winter is finally loosening its grip ❄️

This same place is still preserved today as Seiseki Kamata Umeyashiki Park 🌳
Emperor Meiji was apparently so fond of this park he visited five times 👑

Most people just see an old artwork 🤷‍♂️

But there’s a real place, a real season, and a real feeling behind it ✨

That’s what Welcome to Japan is about 🇯🇵
finding the meaning behind the places and stories you visit ☝️

Save this for your next museum visit 📌
