Japan welcomed approximately 42.7 million foreign visitors in 2025, marking the first time inbound tourism exceeded 40 million in a single year. This set a new national record, well above the 36.9 million visitors recorded in 2024.

The government reported that many countries and regions posted their highest-ever visitor numbers, contributing to the milestone. Spending by inbound tourists also reached a record level of about 9.5 trillion yen, highlighting tourism’s growing economic impact.

However, arrivals from China declined significantly toward the end of the year, with December figures down about 45% compared to the same period last year. Authorities continue to monitor regional travel trends.

Event Update: "ALL TOGETHER FESTIVAL" for the Coexistence of Japanese and Foreign nationals in Tokyo.

To encourage people to think about a society where Japanese and foreigners can coexist in harmony, the Ministry of Justice and the Immigration Services Agency of Japan have designated January as "Life in Harmony Promotion Month" starting in 2024.

In the trendsetting Shibuya district, why not come and experience Japanese and foreign cultures, enjoy our differences, find new connections, and create a new trend for a "society where people can coexist in harmony" together?
