Lake Nakuru National Park is one of Kenya's most rewarding wildlife destinations and one of its most underestimated.
Sitting in the heart of the Great Rift Valley, the park is built around a shallow alkaline lake that has historically drawn flamingos in their hundreds of thousands, turning the shoreline into a breathtaking sweep of pink visible from the escarpment high above.
Beyond the flamingos, Lake Nakuru delivers game viewing in a landscape that is compact, varied, and consistently productive.
White rhinos, successfully reintroduced into the park, graze across open ground in numbers that make every sighting feel significant. Black rhinos move through the thicker vegetation with a quieter, more elusive presence. Lions and leopards patrol a park small enough to cover thoroughly in a single full day. Giraffes browse the yellow fever tree forests along the lakeshore. Buffaloes gather at the water in large herds at dawn.
And the birdlife, over 450 recorded species, rewards every game drive with something new regardless of how many times you have visited.
Times World Adventure runs Lake Nakuru safaris as day trips and overnight packages from Nairobi. Let us take you there.
