Fuel prices in Kenya are now punishing ordinary citizens more than ever. Every fuel increase means higher matatu fares, expensive food, rising rent, costly deliveries, and struggling businesses. The people carrying the economy on their backs are being squeezed daily while salaries remain the same.

At this point, fuel is no longer just a transport issue — it’s a survival issue. Small businesses are collapsing, hustlers are earning less, and families are forced to cut basic needs just to survive another month.

How long can wananchi keep absorbing these endless increases before the system breaks completely?

“Jack of all trades… or master of burnout?”

We often celebrate the “go-to” employee.

The one who fixes IT issues, jumps into meetings outside their role, helps with reports, supports customers, and somehow keeps everything moving.

At first, it feels like a superpower.

You learn fast. You adapt quickly. You understand how different parts of the business connect.

But here’s the part no one talks about:

The more you can do, the more you get asked to do.

And before long, “being helpful” quietly turns into:

doing work outside your role
carrying extra workload
being relied on, but not clearly recognized
and slowly edging toward burnout

There’s another hidden cost too:

When you do everything, you risk becoming known for nothing specific.

In many careers, depth still beats breadth when it comes to promotions and long-term growth.

So what’s the answer?

Don’t stop being versatile.

But don’t stay undefined.

The strongest professionals today are not just jacks of all trades.

They’re generalists with a sharp edge—broad enough to adapt, deep enough to be undeniable in at least one area.

Versatility opens doors.
Depth gets you promoted.

You need both.
