Ishara Mara is located in the heart of the Maasai Mara National Reserve, next to a river and just a short drive from Olkiombo airstrip. The eco luxury resort combines beautiful African designs with incredible wildlife and a range of unique experiences.

Guests can enjoy gourmet dining, a spa, sauna, cold plunge, gym, heated pool, observation deck, outdoor showers, and river facing bathtubs. There is a Canon photography center where you can learn and improve your photography skills.

We came across these two beautiful oryx during our time in Samburu, and it was such a great sighting. Their distinctive black and white markings, long straight horns, and calm presence make them one of the most impressive animals to see in this part of Kenya.

The Beisa Oryx is well adapted to the dry and rugged environment of Samburu, where they can go for long periods with very little water.

It was a good reminder of how much you can come across when you are out in Samburu.

Game drives, beautiful sunsets, and incredible wildlife make every safari memorable. But what truly makes our journeys special are the people and communities we meet along the way.

A few months ago, we welcomed back a very special guest and longtime friend who helped build Tharaka Boys High School while serving with the Peace Corps in 1970. More than 50 years later, he continues to support education in the region.

Our team joined him to open a science lab at Tharaka Boys High School, along with two labs and a dormitory at Mirimanti Girls School.

His dedication has been recognized by the Tharaka community, where he was inducted as an Elder in 2023 and has now been honored as a Hero of the Tharaka people.

One of the most inspiring moments is that Mirimanti Girls School won two national STEM awards last year before they even had a science lab.

Stories like these remind us that the greatest adventures are often the connections we make and the lives we help shape.

Known by many as Wamang’ati, the Datoga are one of Tanzania’s most unique Indigenous communities. According to their oral traditions, their ancestors came from the Nile Highlands before settling in Northern Tanzania, where they have preserved their culture for generations.

The Datoga are divided into two main groups: pastoralists, who are known for raising cattle, and blacksmiths, who are highly respected for making tools, ornaments, and other handcrafted items using skills passed down through generations.

The blacksmiths trade their handcrafted products with surrounding communities, supporting their livelihoods and strengthening relationships.
