Every August, the town of Maralal hosts one of the most gloriously unexpected events in East Africa: the International Camel Derby.

Picture this. Camel races through Samburu country. Riders from around the world, most of whom have never sat on a camel before, discovering that camels have opinions. Legendary sunsets at nearly 2,000 metres. And all around it, Samburu culture in full colour: the red shukas, the beadwork, the songs.

Air Tanzania began flying Dar es Salaam to Moscow on 𝟭 𝗝𝘂𝗹𝘆, three times a week, routed through Zanzibar. The airline has also said Europe and the United States are the next phase once the fleet grows.

Translation for you: more foreign arrivals landing on the same stretch of coast, in the same high season, chasing the same rooms.

𝘕𝘶𝘯𝘨𝘸𝘪, 𝘒𝘦𝘯𝘥𝘸𝘢 and 𝘗𝘢𝘫𝘦 sell out early in a normal year. This one is not shaping up to be normal.

If Zanzibar is on your 2027 list, lock it in while rates are still holdable.
