Zebras: strength in numbers 🦓

Zebras almost always live in groups. These close-knit herds provide protection against predators and help individual animals blend into the group. Their distinctive black-and-white stripes play an important role in this.

For many animals, the acacia is an important source of food and shelter. Giraffes feed on the leaves, birds use the branches to rest or nest, and other animals seek shade during the hottest parts of the day.

Variable sunbirds live in gardens, savannahs, and woodland edges and are often seen around flowering plants. With their long, curved beaks, they feed on nectar, but they also eat small insects. Interactions within a lion pride 🦁

Lions are social predators that live in prides where hierarchy and social bonds play an important role. In this photo, you see an interaction between a male lion and a lioness. The Thomson’s gazelle is named after the Scottish explorer and scientist Joseph Thomson. He was the first to describe this gazelle species in 1883 during his expeditions through Kenya. Ever since, the Thomson’s gazelle has become one of the most recognisable inhabitants of the East African savannahs.
