When an elephant arrives in our care, the odds are already against them. They have either been submerged in water over night, or without their mothers milk for enough time to make them dangerously dehydrated for a small baby.

When the vet checks have been done, IV drips are slowly doing their job as well as any other treatment needed this is all so critical to what makes or breaks an animals survival.

But, what is also vitally important is just being there. Yes, that is it! It's seriously important that the calf is not alone and doesn't have a moment to feel lonely or loose the will to live.

Our keepers are always with them - especially in the early and most vulnerable days. It's the importance of showing up and being there what makes the difference! ❤️
